Dear Community,
We’re in this for the long haul, but we’re in it together.
The work we do has changed - there is no going back to the way things were.
Our new intern cohort has joined 100% virtually. Children may be in school in the fall, but it will look drastically different. The whole world has gone virtual but we've left many behind.
How do we move forward when this is uncharted territory, when it's inequitable?
As innovative thought leaders at Maria Droste we are ready to delve in, to learn, to collaborate. We will partner with school communities in new ways that meet students, families, and educators where they are. We will work with our housing, family justice centers, and medical partners to identify efficient and effective ways to reach those most in need and most isolated. We will share our mental health expertise in virtual mediums that are accessible and relevant. We will outreach our community so that Coloradans across the state know we are here to serve.
COVID-19 will eventually go away, but telehealth is here to stay.
And so are we.
Virtually Yours,

Maria Droste Counseling Center Wins Impact100 2020 Grant!
We would like to thank the
Impact100
community for awarding, Maria Droste Counseling Center (MDCC),
the Impact100 Metro Denver 2020 Grant of $100,000.
"
MDCC was ahead of the curve
when they identified telehealth as a strategy to increase vulnerable populations’ access to counseling services.
When they submitted their application to Impact100 to launch their telehealth program back in September, they had no way of knowing the urgency and relevance of their request.
Since COVID-19 hit, MDCC’s visionary staff have led the charge to pivot their services to a telehealth model, a process MDCC’s Executive Director Sandra Mann likened to 'flying the plane while building it.' Now, with a $100,000 grant from Impact100, MDCC will build the technology supports and infrastructure necessary to create sustainable, long-term telehealth services to expand their reach and build healthier Colorado communities." -

"I was thinking about how broken I was when I met you - I couldn’t imagine going through something like this if I was how I was then. Whatever happens, I’m thankful that I’ve met you as a therapist and as a person.”

Mental Health Matters: An Intern Success Story
|
|
In the Beginning of her therapy sessions, 11-year-old Jessica* appeared extremely withdrawn. This was partly because of the mistrust she had developed with most teachers at school that year, being labelled as “bad,” “loud,” or “too much.” Having the space and patience to get to know this student beyond these limiting labels, I have gotten to see her for her whole self. I've worked to show her that I associate different words with her, like “creative,” “funny,” and “strong.” Now, instead of being met with hostility, she requests to do meditations every session and calls my room her space to “be herself.”
Programs
like
MDCC's Children First
allow children like Jessica to overcome their obstacles and blossom into their full potential.
