Speaker at Moorpark Morning Rotary

I was invited to speak at the Moorpark Rotary Club and connect with a group of incredible community leaders. It was a pleasure to spend time with individuals so dedicated to making a positive impact both locally and globally. As someone who values community engagement, I am grateful for the opportunity to be involved with Rotary and support the meaningful work they do. Thank you to the Moorpark Rotary Club for all you do for our community.

Mobile Vietnam Memorial Wall Opening Ceremony

Over Memorial Day Weekend, I had the honor of attending the opening ceremony for the AV-Wall, the Mobile Vietnam Memorial Wall, hosted by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District. The half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. was open 24 hours a day for the community to pay their respects. Thank you to all who made this moving tribute possible, and to the veterans and families who have made a profound contribution in the way we live.

Fire Debris and Film Ordinance Update

At the June 24th Board of Supervisors meeting, two important items were discussed that focus on both public safety and economic development in Ventura County.

First, the Board received an in-depth presentation regarding the disposal of fire debris from the Palisades and Eaton Fires into the Simi Valley Landfill. The presentation, delivered by representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Ventura County Environmental Health Department, Ventura County Air Pollution Control District, and WM, highlighted the types and volumes of debris being transported, the environmental monitoring in place, and the measures being taken to ensure community safety and full regulatory compliance. This effort is part of a transparent and collaborative process to manage disaster-generated waste responsibly while maintaining the health and safety of our community.

Second, I introduced a request to modernize Ventura County’s Film Ordinance by directing the Planning Director to include updates to the County Film Program in the Division Work Plan. The proposed updates would explore extending the duration of temporary film permits, enabling long-term productions on large properties with appropriate environmental safeguards, and evaluating ways to reduce neighborhood impacts from filming on small residential lots. With Ventura County falling within the 30-Mile Zone that attracts high levels of film production, these changes aim to retain and grow film-related economic activity, generating jobs, supporting local businesses, and bringing valuable revenue to the region.

Congratulations

Class of 2025

Graduation season was in full swing across Simi Valley and Moorpark, and I want to extend my congratulations to the Class of 2025! It was such a joy to attend the Moorpark High School graduation and celebrate with the students, families, and educators. Congratulations to all graduates from our local high schools, including Simi Valley High, Royal, Santa Susana, Apollo, Vista Real, and more. Congratulations to our amazing Moorpark College grads. And let’s not forget our 8th graders who are promoting to high school, your journey is just beginning, and we’re cheering you on every step of the way!

Simi Valley Street Fair

The Simi Valley Street Fair is always a great time. I always love connecting with our community one-on-one, hearing what’s on your mind, and sharing what’s happening around the county. Events like this is why I enjoy being your supervisor; we are lucky to have such a strong and engaged community. I’m already looking forward to the next one!

Fire Station 34 Grand Opening

I was honored to speak during the grand opening of the Ventura County Fire Department’s newest Fire Station 34 in Thousand Oaks. This state-of-the-art facility, which officially began operating in March, includes two pull-through engine bays, seven dorm rooms, and expanded office meeting spaces, more than tripling the size of the original station. The 1.9-acre is a commitment to public safety and emergency response in the East County.

Royal High School's

JROTC Pass-In-Review

I attended the impressive CA-20142 AFJROTC annual Pass-In-Review event at Royal High School. The cadets demonstrated qualities that reflect the strength of this incredible program. Although it was a challenge to be a judge, a special congratulations to Bravo Flight for winning both the Jody Competition and the title of Flight of the Year, a remarkable achievement! I also want to extend congratulations to all the seniors who participated in their final review. I’m excited to see what your futures hold.

Moorpark Rotary Officer of the Year Awards

Moorpark Rotary recognized CHP Officer Marco Mejia and Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputy Matthew Rodriguez as the 2024 Officers of the Year. These outstanding individuals were celebrated for their unwavering commitment to public safety, professionalism, and service to our community. Their dedication does not go unnoticed, and we are grateful for the work they do every day to keep Ventura County safe.

10th Annual Sergeant Ron Helus Ride For The Blue

I rode on a Harley in the 10th Annual Sergeant Ron Helus Ride for the Blue, an event dedicated to honoring Ventura County’s first responders and remembering the heroism of Sgt. Ron Helus. The ride brought together community members, public safety personnel, and supporters from across the county. The ride stops at local police and sheriff stations and provides an opportunity to say thank you and show our appreciation for those who protect and serve every day. Even more importantly, this event raises critical funds for mental health programs that support our first responders. It was a meaningful day filled with gratitude, community, and connection. I'm proud to continue supporting events like this that invest in the well-being of those who keep us safe.

Honoring Troy Brown

After more than seven years of dedicated service to the City of Moorpark, we said farewell and congratulations to our City Manager, Troy Brown. From day one, Troy dove into our community, joining the Boys & Girls Club Board and the Kiwanis Club, and helping the city deliver on long-awaited goals like Princeton Avenue and High Street. His leadership wasn’t just about projects, it was about people. He supported so many of us, including me personally, and I’ll never forget the pride we all felt when he became President of the International City/County Management Association. That was a very big deal, and he did it on his own time, not city time. Troy, thank you for your patience, vision, and unwavering commitment to Moorpark. Your legacy will continue to shape this city for years to come. Enjoy retirement with Toni and the kids, and congratulations on your well-deserved retirement!

Ventura County Sheriff's

2025 Briefing Breakfast

I had the opportunity to attend the 2025 State of Law Enforcement in Ventura County, hosted by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Foundation. Sheriff Jim Fryhoff provided an informative update on the challenges, progress, and priorities in public safety throughout our county. It was a valuable discussion that reinforced the Sheriff’s commitment to the department’s mission: “Serve with Integrity, Protect with Honor.”

Ventura County Fire Department's 62nd Graduation

Please join me in congratulating the graduates of the Ventura County Fire Department’s 62nd Fire Academy. After months of rigorous training, these dedicated individuals have officially earned their place in one of the finest fire departments in the state. Their class motto, “62 Only the Best Will Do,” reflects the discipline, integrity, and heart each recruit has shown throughout their journey. As they begin their careers in fire service, I know they will make Ventura County proud. Thank you to the families, instructors, and mentors who supported them every step of the way. We are all safer because of your commitment.

Sheriff Promotion and Service Awards

At the Ventura County Sheriff’s Promotion & Service Awards ceremony, where we celebrated the accomplishments and dedication of those who serve our community with excellence. I’d like to extend a special congratulations to Darin Hendren on his well-deserved promotion to Commander. His steadfast leadership and commitment to public safety have made a meaningful impact, and I look forward to seeing all he will accomplish in this new role in the East County.

Supporting Mental Health at the

NAMIWalks & Resource Fair

In May, I had the privilege of co-chairing the 18th Annual NAMIWalks Ventura County and the All Heroes Resource Fair at Royal High School in Simi Valley. As one of this year’s Honorary Walk Chairs, I was honored to help kick off the event alongside my co-chair Simi Valley Police Chief Stephen Shorts. Together with local residents, veterans, first responders, and advocates, we walked to raise awareness and support for mental health in our community. NAMI Ventura County has been a leader in this space for over four decades, working tirelessly to support individuals and families affected by mental illness. Events like these remind us just how important it is to continue these conversations, reduce stigma, and expand access to critical resources. The Resource Fair brought together organizations offering services and support for veterans, first responders, and their families. Thank you to all the sponsors, volunteers, and attendees who made this day so impactful. I’m proud to support NAMI Ventura County’s work and will continue advocating for mental health across our district.

Supporting Early Literacy with “Take 5 and Read to Kids!”

I had the joy of participating in First 5 Ventura County’s Take 5 and Read to Kids! Campaign, an initiative that encourages reading with young children to help build strong early literacy skills. I stopped by Campus Canyon Preschool and read to a wonderful class of preschoolers who were full of curiosity, and smiles!

A big thank you to First 5 Ventura County for the work they do year-round to support children and families in our community. Reading aloud is one of the simplest and most powerful ways we can help our youngest residents succeed.

Peace Officers Association 2024 Memorial Ceremony

The Ventura County Peace Officers Memorial is a solemn event, dedicated to honoring the brave men and women in law enforcement who lost their lives in the line of duty. Surrounded by family members, colleagues, and community members, we gathered to remember their service, sacrifice, and lasting impact. These heroes made the ultimate commitment to protect and serve, and their legacies live on in the safety of our neighborhoods and the hearts of those they left behind. We will never forget them.

California Pet Adoption Day Adoption Kit Drive

Thanks to the incredible support of our community, we’re able to make adoption day special for pets starting their next chapter. With your donations, we were able to put together 75 adoption bags! These bags were filled with supplies, treats, and love to help each animal settle into their new forever home. We’re so grateful to every community member who donated and to the local businesses and partners who volunteered their spaces as drop-off locations. Your generosity and kindness have made a meaningful impact.

Ventura County Fire Department Awards

The Ventura County Fire Department’s Annual Awards Ceremony was a special event recognizing the incredible individuals who go above and beyond to protect and serve our community. Each honoree exemplifies the highest standards of public service in the Ventura County Fire Department. Congratulations to all of this year’s award recipients and thank you to the entire VCFD team for your tireless commitment to keeping Ventura County safe.

Wild Fire Safety Day at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library

Wildfire Safety Day at the Reagan Library was a fun and engaging event for the whole family. Attendees enjoyed hands-on safety demonstrations, met local firefighters and emergency responders, and even watched a live water drop and helicopter landing by the Ventura County Fire Department. Kids loved the goat petting zoo while families completed the Fire Safety Passport challenge and left better prepared for wildfire season.

Taxpayer Focus on Public Safety

I was a moderator at the Ventura County Taxpayers Foundation’s 2025 Taxpayer Focus on Public Safety event. The panel featured District Attorney Erik Nasarenko, Sheriff Jim Fryhoff, and County Fire Chief Dustin Gardner, who each offered valuable insight into the work their departments are doing to keep our communities safe. The conversation covered key public safety priorities across the County, from emergency response and fire prevention to crime trends and prosecution strategies. It was an open dialogue about how we can support and improve public safety efforts while being good stewards of taxpayer dollars. Thank you to VCTF for organizing this event, to our public safety leaders for their participation, and to the many sponsors who helped make it possible.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported our Community Blood Drive on June 5th! Your generosity made an incredible impact, as we collected 28 units of life-saving blood, which will help up to 84 patients.

We’re especially grateful to Moorpark Police Chief Nick Odenath for donating and showing what community leadership looks like. A big round of applause to our 3 first-time donors and the 14 Type O donors, whose blood is crucial in emergencies.

Mark your calendars, for our next Community Blood Drive. It will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2025. We hope to see you there.

Ribbon Cuttings

Over the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to attend several exciting ribbon cuttings and grand openings across our community, each marking growth, innovation, and dedication to service. From the opening of Regal Residence on April 9 to the community-centered launch of the Ruben Castro Charities Community Farm and Tree Planting on April 27, it's clear that our region continues to thrive. We also broke ground on the long-awaited High Street Improvements on June 3, and welcomed new businesses like Quantum Systems on June 6, Tiny Treasure’s on June 27, and Illumine Skin & Wellness on June 28. Celebrating 99.1 The Ranch’s 10th Anniversary with a ribbon cutting on June 12 reminded us of the strong local voices.

Informational Fire Workshop

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Informational Fire Workshop. The event had a strong turnout and great engagement from participants. We heard valuable updates from the Ventura County Fire Department, including a detailed overview of the newly updated fire maps and what they mean for local homeowners and neighborhoods. The workshop also included helpful information on home hardening, wildfire preparedness, and insights into insurance coverage. We appreciate all of the thoughtful questions submitted during the Q&A, your participation made the conversation more relevant. If you missed the event or would like to revisit the information, a recording of the workshop is available to watch at your convenience. You’ll find the video link below.
