SHRINKIN' IT DOWN FOR YOU...
July, 2016 - In This Issue:

From everyone here at Dr. Shrink, we would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy 4th of July!
A NOTE FROM YOUR DOCTOR:
"The weather in Manistee has been wonderful and it's nice to see boats on Lake Michigan and people out and about enjoying the area. If you haven't visited Northern  Michigan before, come up for a visit as it is a beautiful time of year here. We are getting ready to send our catalogs to print and you'll be seeing them in August. We've made some big changes this year and are excited to show you. Our electronic catalog will link directly with our website for easy and convenient ordering. We also have innovative new products that our team is proud to launch and I'd appreciate hearing feedback on.

I'd like to invite all locals to come out and support a great cause with the Relay for Life at the end of this month here in Manistee, MI. Dr. Shrink has signed up our own team, The Shrink Walkers, and we will be there 24 hours from July 30 at 10 AM to July 31 at 10 AM.  We have also entered our school bus into the 4th of July parade this year to bring awareness to all cancer research-- we are wrapping it in our new PINK shrink wrap which is guaranteed to WOW people!

Don't forget, July 11th is All American Pet Photo Day! Our animals here at Dr. Shrink are like family, so we're always taking pictures and having fun with them. Make sure to post a picture of your pets to our Facebook page from now until Monday the 11th and we will compile an album of all our furry friends for All American Pet Photo Day.

Please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions. I enjoy hearing from our customers - email me at [email protected]

I hope you all have a safe and Happy 4th of July! Thank you for working with us."

Go PINK with Dr. Shrink!
Pink shrink wrap is now in stock at Dr. Shrink! Available in two popular sizes in 8-mil thickness, our 14' x 128' and 17' x 110' pink will definitely get attention!

Mike and Ryan recently shrink wrapped a car at a local Ford Dealership; Manistee Ford was putting on their annual "Pink Out" Classic Car Show for the 7th year to gain awareness for breast cancer research. A portion of all used cars sales during the month of June were donated and the proceeds go to the local hospital, West Shore Medical Center's commitment to the early detection of breast cancer.

The shrink wrapped car not only stood out in color at the car show, but also turned into a guessing game at the event. Spectators were entered into a raffle by correctly guessing what kind of vehicle was wrapped underneath the pink cover-- it was a brand new Ford Fusion, but many guesses were for Ford Focus and Ford Mustang.

Rob Pepera, Sales Manager at Manistee Ford states, "This was our 7th year for the car show and so far we have raised over $15,000 in those 7 years. This year we added about $3,400. For the "Pink Out" car show, the fee was $10 for each car that registered and we had just over 100 cars. We also had raffle tickets for prizes that local businesses donated and a corn hole game, as well as food and drinks. The "Guess the Car" shrink wrap contest was very popular. The shrink wrapped car turned out to be a featured attraction not just for passersby of the dealership on the busy highway, but inside the event as well as people were drawn to the car and started signing the pink cover. We are planning to keep the car wrapped in pink shrink wrap until the end of June; it has gained a lot of attention in our lot and we hope to raise more money for breast cancer research."

Just imagine all the things that you can wrap that will grab the attention of people with this bright, show-stopping pink!
Dr. Shrink's New Garden

The Dr. Shrink Garden is in-- planting started on June 1st and the veggies and herbs are off to a good start.  We have corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, jalapenos, radishes, watermelon, lettuce, kale, broccoli, carrots, and green beans, in addition to basil, dill, parsley, cilantro and a few more herbs. Our cucumbers haven't had the best of luck, but the tomatoes and rest of the garden are making it. The radishes are sprouting as well as the carrots - both we started from seeds. It's a work in progress! We're hoping that they all make it and we'll be able to reap the rewards of having our own garden right outside our office door.

Dr. Shrink Enters Local 4th of July Parade with Pink Shrink Wrapped School Bus

We are showing off our new PINK shrink wrap all around this town! This week, the Dr. Shrink team  shrink wrapped and decorated the bus in our new pink material.  The bus will be driven in the local 4th of July parade and Dr. Shrink staff and other volunteer walkers will hand out information on the local Relay for Life. Make sure you "like" us on Facebook to see parade photos.  Pink is the color of breast cancer awareness, and we are also proud to support all cancer research by partaking in Relay for Life of Manistee County.

Relay for Life starts on Saturday, July 30th at 10:00am and goes until Sunday, July 31st at 10:00am. The event is located at First Street Beach Parking Lot and will have a food vendor truck in addition to many baked goods and other goodies.  Dr. Shrink's team, The Shrink Walkers, will be walking for 24 hours. If you're local, please come out and support a great cause!

Need a reinforced, non-tearing material?
Try our DuraSkrim®

Dura-Skrim® is an ultra heavy-duty wrap designed for projects that need a strong, non-tearing material. Dura-Skrim® is reinforced and ridged with a diamond pattern. The reinforced material has an unyielding design that provides heavy-duty protection. It is available in either white Flame Retardant or clear Non-Flame Retardant.

Dura-Skrim® consists of two sheets of high-strength virgin film laminated together with a third layer of molten polyethylene (the molten layer of polyethylene renders it unshrinkable - as such it resists heat and is resilient in a way that shrink wrap is not). A heavy-duty scrim reinforcement placed between these plies greatly enhances tear resistance and increases service life.

*Can be seamed or heat welded together with a propane fired heat tool.*

DuraSkrim® 2 (non-flame retardant, 6-mil) is used for temporary applications that require a lightweight yet highly tear-resistant film such as building enclosures and abatement applications.

DuraSkrim® 2FR (flame retardant, 6-mil) is used in applications that require a fire-retardant material, and demand high puncture and tear strengths.

Other common applications for DuraSkrim®:
  • Building Enclosures
  • Construction Enclosures
  • Vapor Barrier
  • Temporary Liner or Cover
  • Erosion Control
  • Shipping and Packaging
  • Asbestos Abatements
  • Fumigation Cover
  • Temporary Wall
  • Remediation Cover

(DURA-SKRIM-2FR-20X100)
*DuraSkrim® 2FR meets or exceeds NFPA's 701 test*

All American Pet Photo Day
Dr. Shrink, Inc. is an animal friendly office with 6 dogs and an office cat that come to work (and hang around) everyday. Animals have always been a soft spot for Mike, owner and CEO of Dr. Shrink, Inc. Back in December, Mike, Bart and Kyle went "Roadtrippin' for a Reason," cross-country from Nevada to Michigan in his Mike's newly purchased 1990 Ford LTD Crown Victoria Country Squire Wagon. Mike decided to raise awareness for animals in need by documenting his road-trip with photos/videos and posting them to Facebook. From there, he tallied up all the "likes" and "shares" that his roadtrip posts received and at the end of his trip, each tally was put toward a monetary donation towards our local animal shelter. The roadtrip ended up raising $450 for the Homeward Bound Animal Shelter here in Manistee, MI.

Monday, July 11th is All American Pet Photo Day - Look for our social media post on our  Facebook Page and post a picture of you and your pet (or just your pet)! Feel free to post them from now up until the 11th and on Monday the 11th we will make an album of all our furry friends. Dress them up, take them for a walk or just spend some quality time with them. Let's celebrate all of our pets! We are looking forward to seeing your furry family on our Facebook page!  #AllAmericanPetPhotoDay

Safety Tips and Tricks
National Safety Month has come to a close. Here's a recap of our blogs with tips to keep you safe. Remember, safety is always the main concern while shrink wrapping anything.

Always wear the proper safety equipment while shrink wrapping - this includes: safety gloves, safety glasses, film and strapping knives that have hooded blade ends for safe cutting, fire extinguishers easily accessible, and remember to view our Training DVDs and our YouTube channel for installation instructions and application guides.

Dr. Shrink stocks a variety of propane fired heat tool options to fit your needs. We are proud to supply popular models with several different safety features in mind.

The Shrinkfast 998 Heat Tool

This heat tool is our most used and most recommended heat tool.

The Shrinkfast 998 comes in a complete kit with these safety features built into it:
  • "Dead man" trigger that shuts off the flow of propane if the heat tool is dropped
  • UL approved hose that can withstand a pull test of up to 300 PSI
  • UL approved regulator assembly with an excess check valve that prevents a gas leak if the hose should get cut or damaged
  • A "cool" combustor that prevents the user from getting burned if they accidentally touch the combustor
  • Built in the USA

The Ripack 3000 Heat Tool

The Ripack 3000 comes in a complete kit with these safety features built into it:
  • The stainless steel combustion nozzle remains cold even during intensive use
  • The design of the aluminum body forbids any obstruction of the diverse air inlets and the pressure regulator (SECURIPACK) has a double security.
  • The Ripack's components are systemically protected from shocks, heat and/or tearing
  • The nozzle rotates 360° and the gas connector swivels as well
  • Safe and convenient hanger ring when tool is not in use

Here are some safety rules to keep in mind on the job site:
  • Is your work area safe? Make sure that your work area is free and clear of any potential hazards.
  • Be prepared if working on the water.  Have properly fitted Coast Guard approved PFDs (personal flotation devices), a life ring or ample length of rope available if someone may fall into the water, and a full change of clothes and towels to reduce the risk of hypothermia.
  • Cut out excess material before heat welding pleats/seams. Not only does it make a neat presentation, but more importantly, it minimizes the amount of shrink film that could potentially ignite if you were to overheat a seam or pleat in an attempt to heat weld the material.
  • When heat welding pleats and seams, heat from the bottom to the top to prevent the material within the fold from super-heating and potentially causing a fire.
  • Remember: heat rises so work from the lowest to highest point when heating shrink wrap and allow the rising heat to work for you.
  • Say NO to open-flow valve heat tools. See above for our heat tool recommendations.
  • Look for hazards around the object you are wrapping, whether it be dry leaves, grass or other potentially flammable material on the ground.
  • Only shrink what you can see. In order to reduce the risk of fire, it is of the utmost importance to NEVER direct the flame of your heat tool over an area of shrink wrap if you cannot see it. Without having to the flame insight at all times, you could overheat and ignite the shrink film and most likely not be in a position to quickly extinguish the fire and keep it from rapidly spreading.
