July Newsletter 2021
Summer is in full swing and there is no chance of things slowing down! We are beginning the second month of the All Iowa Shop Hop. There's still plenty of time to check out the wonderful quilt shops spread throughout our beautiful state.
Mark your calendars for the Scraps Happen Shop Hop on August 5-7. Seven shops are participating and you will receive a free pattern from each shop that features a way to use up your stash. Check out our website for full details.
Camp Quiltmaker will be offered again on Monday, July 19, from 9-11 am. Any child aged 8-14 is welcome to attend with an accompanying adult. The cost is $5.00 for the student plus the cost of the kit with the needed supplies for a hand sewing project. There is no charge for the adult. This month Lori will be teaching beginning English paper piecing. Call the shop to reserve your spot.
Are you ready for another mystery sew-along? We're kicking off our Mystery Mini Sew Along on July 16 . The cost is $30 for the six month program. You will receive patterns for two blocks each month which can be used as stand alone projects for a small frame or put the 12 blocks together into a quilt. The patterns can be picked up on or after the third Friday of each month. The challenge for the sew along is that this is a TWO COLOR mystery. This means that you choose your background color (Color #1) and one main color (Color #2). You may use many variations of Color #1 and Color #2- BUT the quilt should primarily consist of TWO colors. You will be asked to declare your main color (Color #2) Call the shop or stop in to reserve your spot! 563.927.8017.
Quilter of the Month
Meet Carrie Borchardt! She is an amazing quilter who is known for thinking outside the box. Carrie has been quilting over 20 years and learned from her maternal grandmother, her mother, aunt and the internet. She comes from a family of crafters. She loves the piecing process. Carrie prefers choosing from a fabric line so all fabrics coordinate. She then lets the fabric tell her what it needs to become. Her favorite book is Word Play Quilts by Tonya Ricucci and her favorite notions are The Cutting Gizmo by Gypsy Quilter and the Bloc-Loc ruler to trim half square triangles. She loves Kaffe Fassett and Lori Holt. The fun thing about Carrie is the wide variety of styles that she uses in her quilts. They are always fun and make you smile. Congratulations to Carrie Borchardt, our Quilter of the Month!
Join us on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 for an evening of laughs, updates on what's new at the shop and inspiration from other quilters. We have a time for Show and Tell where you have a chance to show us what you've been working on. Kathy is always challenging us to try something outside of our box. Come and join in on all the fun.
We are beginning to schedule our slate of fall classes that will begin in September. If you and a couple of your friends are interested in taking a class, just give us a call and we will set up a class that fits into your schedule. Be sure to like us on Facebook so you get the latest information on classes, events and specials.

We will be closed on Monday, July 5th to celebrate the 4th of July holiday with our family and friends. Leanne is taking the night off so there will be no Facebook Live on the 5th. She will return on the 12th.
