Caleb's Commentary

As our state and nation are still reeling over the tragic shootings in Highland Park, Uvalde, Buffalo, and countless other cities, I am drawn to the power of community.

As lives are rebuilt in these places, I see strangers going out of their way to donate blood, money, and time to help in any way they can. In these moments of sorrow, we unite around a common goal to keep moving forward, an unspoken promise to one another.

In this spirit, I'm reminded of the work we do here at A Just Harvest - a commitment to improving our neighbors' lives however we can. Through our efforts at investing in our community while amplifying the voices of the silenced and ignored, we will always stand with our brothers, sisters, and, siblings in support and solidarity. In times of tragedy and in times of triumph, we will never stray from our mission to create a more just society and a better world.

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022,

Our Executive Director, Rev. Dr. Marilyn Pagán-Banks celebrates another gritty and graceful year around the sun.

Our vision remains to cultivate a world of shared belonging and radical abundance with her leadership and all of our: staff, volunteers, and partners work invested in this vision.

Join us in celebrating her life and honoring her 20 years of service at A Just Harvest by clicking the green box below and making a donation.

We envision community wellness to include at the very minimum food on the table and a safe place to rest for everyone impinged by the violence of poverty.

AGUA Program Growth:

  • The Infrastructure Improvements Continue: With the help of contractor and educator extraordinaire, John Hoekwater, we now have a new shed at the hoophouse!

  • Special Thank You to Hello! Howard Community Garden: We are very grateful to receive 11 plots in the Hello! Howard Community Garden which is both allowing us to increase the amount of food we grow for the community as well as giving the apprentices their own gardens in which they have full control over what crops are planted, how it is designed and the experience of a garden that is theirs! It has also been such a joy to be in a space with other gardeners, meeting them, exchanging stories, information and ideas, seeing other gardening techniques and designs. We’re especially excited to be growing next to the group of the English Language Students from Howard Area Community Center.

I am a plant mom and created a person recently and enjoying momma life. I am in love with staring at the moon and find water to be soothing. I love sharing space with radical folks charged for change. I find joy being at rest, dreaming and loving on myself.

Thank you for welcoming me into this beautiful space. I am honored to be in the beautiful struggle with you."
