PHONE SCAM ALERT
Protect your account!
Many of us trust phone calls, especially
if the person on the other end knows even
a small piece of information about us.
Here are a few tips to recognize a phone scam:
·
If you suspect that "this does not sound right",
hang up the phone immediately.
·
If you are pressured to make a quick decision.
·
If you are asked to go to a specific website- like to fix a computer issue or download a new software program. The caller could be a hacker. Just by visiting the requested website, you could be enabling malware to infect your computer without even downloading anything.
·
The number on the telephone display can also be fake.
·
Never give out your personal information, account number,
credit or debit card information on the phone unless you
initiated the call to a company that you know.
·
Never agree to complete a wire transfer to anyone
unless you know them personally.
·
Always ask for written information before you agree to anything.
Be sure to use only the phone numbers that you know to be a true number for the Credit Union when responding to phone messages. If you have responded to a phone scam and provided any confidential account information,
please notify
us immediately.
