Each year, July marks the anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. It is the landmark legislation that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life (including jobs, schools, transportation, public and private places), signed into law in 1990. The law's purpose is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. July is also Disability Pride Month. Even though it has been celebrated since 1990, it is not nationally recognized. There is a commemorative flag, pictured here, that you can click on to read more. As we strive for even greater INclusion for people with disabilities in the workplace and beyond, let's take a moment to recognize and celebrate the history and diversity of this community.
