Hurricane Preparation Reminders

Atlantic hurricane season June begins on 1st and ends on November 30th.

CDD Management will use email to communicate common area updates before and after any major weather event.

Please take these steps to stay safe:

1. Secure Your Property & Outdoor Areas

High winds can turn everyday backyard items into destructive missiles.

Clear Patios and Yards: In the event of a storm watch or warning, immediately bring all personal items indoors, including patio furniture, potted plants, grills, garbage cans, and decorative items.

Check Your Shutters: If you have approved storm shutters, ensure they are in proper working order well before a storm threatens our area.

Gutters and Drainage: Ensure your home's gutters and downspouts are clear of debris to prevent localized flooding during heavy downpours.

2. Build a 7-to-10-Day Emergency Kit

Following a major storm, basic services like electricity and water may be unavailable for extended periods. FEMA and the Florida Department of Health recommend stocking a kit that can sustain your household (including pets) for at least 7 to 10 days:

Water: Minimum 1 gallon of water per person (and pet) per day.

Food: Non-perishable, shelf-stable items, and a manual can opener.

Power & Light: Flashlights, extra batteries, and fully charged portable power banks. Avoid candles during power outages due to fire hazards; use battery-operated lighting instead.

Medical Supplies: At least a 30-day supply of essential medications and a first- aid kit.

Pet Essentials: Food, extra water, leashes, and a crate or carrier.

3. Know Your Evacuation Zone & Plan Ahead

Evacuation Routes: Visit FloridaDisaster.org/KnowYourZone to identify your local evacuation zone and nearby emergency shelters. Screenshot or print this information, as cell service can fail during a storm.

Keep Gas Tanks Half Full: Get into the habit of keeping your vehicle's fuel tank at least half full throughout the season to avoid fuel shortages and massive lines if an evacuation order is issued.

Secure Important Documents: Keep critical papers (IDs, home deeds, insurance policies, medical records) stored in high, waterproof containers or digital cloud storage.
