On June 26, the GACC New York hosted the German American Offshore Wind Symposium at the Urban Tech Hub at Grand Central Tech. This event offered an excellent platform for know-how and best-practice exchanges from both sides of the Atlantic, as well as providing in-depth insights about the German and US markets.
Experts from Germany and the US presented their ideas and concepts to strengthen international knowledge transfer and discussed ways to bolster cooperation. Featured organizations and companies included NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research & Development Authority), BOEM (Bureau of Ocean Energy Management), conEdison, the New Jersey Governor's Office as well as the German Offshore Wind Energy Foundation and the Wind Energy Association (WAB e.V.)
With more than 100 attendees, the conference was a great success and offered the audience the possibility to learn about the latest trends, business models and market opportunities in the sector and meet with the German companies individually to discuss potential synergies.
The full-day conference was part of a delegation trip for eight German companies from the Offshore Wind Industry who visited New York and North Carolina from June 25-29. The joint program organized by the GACC New York and GACC South offered the German delegation the opportunity for high-level business meetings with various companies in New York City such as National Grid, Phoenix Energy Inc., NY Green Bank. The delegation also had an open discussion with Richard Kauffman, who joined the administration of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo in February 2013 as New York State's first "energy czar" overseeing and managing New York State's entire energy portfolio. Meetings in North Carolina included Siemens Energy Inc., Saertex USA LLC, ABB Inc. among others.

American Delegation Participates at US / German Power Systems Operators Forum in Berlin
With the goal to better understand and navigate newly emerging power systems, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) hosted a study trip to Berlin, Germany, in June.
US and German power systems operators exchange ideas at Berlin forum.
This transatlantic thought leader exchange brought together German and American power system operators, grid regulators and policy makers, as well as organizations involved in grid planning and system operations. The group observed several differences commonalities in the German and American electricity industries; most notably the consensus on the need for decarbonization and policy driven incentives.
Both countries still face challenges in changing infrastructure, as developments in electricity generation, demand response, storage and energy efficiency continue to affect transmission and distribution.
Among the key topics discussed: Introduction to the German Energiewende, Electricity System Design in Germany, Wholesale and Retail Markets for Electricity in Germany/Europe and Key Challenges for the Energy Transition in the Future.
This program is a part of the Energy Dialogue; a broader scale effort to strengthen the energy cooperation between the two countries, encourage the exchange of ideas and build energy transition policy expertise. The German American Chambers of Commerce (GACC) and the Renewables Academy (RENAC), under the leadership of adelphi consult, are supporting the BMWi through the organization of this program."
