Executive Director Update

Greetings from the Hope Chest Breast Cancer Foundation office. With Summer finally arriving, I am pleased to let you know our Spring Appeal was a great success. Thank you to all who donated to the appeal, allowing our work to continue having an impact on our breast cancer patients. I would also like to thank our anonymous donor and Northwest Tonka Lions Club for their match!

I am excited to let you know the Wine & Dine for Hope event planning is well underway. We are excited to be going to The Whim, located in the Arts District of NE Minneapolis. The event committee is working to ensure there will be a festive night of fun and celebration. We need silent auction items, wine and spirits for our popular Wine and Spirits Pull, and fabulous live-action items. Please mark your calendar for Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

Exercise Lowers Breast Cancer Risk In Younger Women

Does just thinking about exercise make you tired?

Consider this: Younger women who are more active have a lower risk of developing breast cancer.

The researchers analyzed the relationship between

physical activity and breast cancer risk in 547,601

women ages 35.2 to 45.8 years. All the women were premenopausal and lived in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

The researchers’ first analysis found that women who

were the most active had a 6% lower risk of breast

cancer compared to women who were the least active.

When the researchers accounted for differences in BMI

– excess weight is a risk factor for breast cancer –

women who were the most active had a 10% lower risk

of breast cancer.
