Chemo Costs Surpass the Average US Annual Income

Four chemo sessions a year could cost up to $48,000, which is beyond the average American's annual income. The average cost of chemo drugs can range from $1,000-$12,000 per month depending on the drug and type of cancer. Assuming patients have insurance, even after premiums and deductibles are met, the patient could be responsible for more than $10,000 a year in out-of-pocket costs.

Financial hardship is experienced by many who survive cancer because of these high costs including challenges paying bills, depletion of savings, delaying or skipping medical care, and bankruptcy. Hope Chest was created to aid in the support of those fighting cancer so they can get the medical treatment they need without experiencing financial hardship.

Meet Michelle Jourdan, Board Member

Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011 and remembers attending a support group for women under 50. She had a great job and excellent benefits, but she met a number of women who didn’t and finances were a concern to them. Michelle is excited to join an organization that she has a personal connection with and believes in the mission. She hopes her 25 years of Human Resources experience can help the foundation with it’s future growth.

We are pleased to have Michelle on our team to support Minnesota Breast Cancer Patients.
