Join renowned boat building instructor Greg Rossel for a two day class where participants will learn to build two
half
models from templates and take lines from the
model to build full scale. Students have the choice of three different boats templates to cut out and assemble. Students will bring their own set of plans and use it as a template for making their own
half
model, to be completed at home. On day two, students will start their second
model, finish off their first
model, and learn how to take lines from a
model. Skills learned: successfully glue up a
model; safely cut out a
model (without cutting off hands); accurately carve a hull using station templates; add a veneer, waterline, and a deck; fair and finish the hull. Lab fees include selection of woods and laminated blanks for carving a waterline lift
model, back board, and glue. If you are unable to bring your own hand tools, please let us know.
Greg Rossel is
the author of "Building Small Boats", coauthor of "Kayaks You Can Build", and a long-time contributor to "WoodenBoat" magazine. He taught Searsport District High School students the mathematical and scientific principles of boatbuilding with a resulting fleet of Shellback Dinghies, and is a regular instructor at Wooden Boat School. His instruction is peppered with well-timed puns and jokes, and is sure to keep students engaged and at ease.
