Highlights from some of our End of Year activities

Sixth Grade Knighting Ceremony

There is a Knighthood of the Twenty First Century

Whose members do not ride through the darkness of physical forests as of old, but through forests of awakened minds.

They are armed with spiritual Armor,

And an inner sun makes them radiant.

Out of them shines healing –

Healing, that flows from the knowledge of the Image of the Human Being as a spiritual being.

They create inner order, inner justice

Peace and conviction,

In the darkness of our time.

These young Knights and Dames trained in the Seven Knightly Virtues of Courage, Justice, Mercy, Generosity, Faith, Nobility, and Hope, as well as completed an in-depth project in the art of chivalry.

As they were knighted, they took the following vow:

As a Modern Day Knight I will strive to champion what is right, what is true and what is good.

I will help others when I can.

I will strive to be kind in word and deed.

I will do all I can to develop my mind, body and spirit so that I might help make the world a better place.

Congratulations to all our young modern-day Knights and Dames for their courage in undertaking such a quest.

Eighth Grade Completion Ceremony

This was a moving ceremony highlighting the student's journey through the grades. There was singing, videos, classwork, delicious treats and lots of laughter.

We are excited for the next chapter in your lives. Thank you again for all the joy you have brought our school this last year!

Celebrating Graduation

Congratulations Class of 2021!!

We celebrated the graduates on a gorgeous June afternoon. Special thanks to their Keynote speaker Chelaine Kokos and Alum Raena Jade, who wowed the crowd with her original music!

We are so proud of this group and know they are just at the beginning their incredible journey.

Summer Camp at WSSD

Week 1 EC

Fiesta Latina

The children dyed fabrics for decorations using natural dyes and made salsa for the fiesta!

There are many uses for natural dyes in a Waldorf kindergarten or home: cotton for play cloths and dolls, silk for marionettes and their stages, unspun wool for toys and wool pictures and felt for table dolls.

Week 2 EC

Bugs and Creatures

The students had fun with ladybugs and lizards.

For the younger classes, the main task is guiding the children’s interests and sense of discovery in the right way, in order for them to develop a sense of wonder for Mother Nature, but also to give them the basis for sciences and later understanding of technical processes.

Week 1 Grades

Gardening

The students harvested the mint, lemon verbena, calendula, chamomile and olive leaves for the healing sun tea.

Biodynamic farming is a form of alternative agriculture that takes an ecological and ethical approach to farming, food, and gardening. Initially developed in 1924 by Rudolf Steiner, it was the first of the organic agriculture movements.

Week 2 Grades

Woodworking

Mr Joaquin, Mr Sean and the students created daggers and memory cubes!

“Children who learn while they are young to make practical things by hand in an artistic way, and for the benefit of others as well as for themselves, will not be strangers to life or to other people when they are older. They will be able to form their lives and their relationships in a social and artistic way, so that their lives are thereby enriched. Out of their hands can come technicians and artists who will know how to solve the problems and tasks set us.”

-Rudolf Steiner
