Oxford English Dictionary
Not just any dictionary, the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is considered to be the most authoritative and comprehensive record of the English language in the world. The OED not only provides present-day meanings of words, but also gives the history of individual words, and of the language, traced through more than 3 million quotations.

Example: did you know " roanoke " comes from the Virginia Algonquian word for white beads made from shell?

Next time you're wondering where a specific word, quote, or turn-of-phrase came from, try out OED.com!

How to access: if you're using the RHEC network, via wired connection or wi-fi, you automatically have access.
This Month's Book Display:
Exam Study Guides
Because of the ever-changing nature of standardized testing, many libraries do not carry study guides for exams. The RHEC Library however strives to maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date collection of exam guides to support our students and Testing Center clients.

To highlight this part of our collection, this month we're displaying titles that prepare readers for standardized tests, including the GED, CLEP, Praxis, MAT, CompTIA, VCLA, GRE and many more.

In addition to displaying print titles in the library, we also have several exam study guide e-books featured at the link below!
VIVA Cooperative Borrowing

The RHEC Library is a member of VIVA, a consortium of academic libraries in the state of Virginia. We're also a participant in their Cooperative Borrowing Program, an initiative allowing students, faculty, and staff at VIVA institutions to borrow materials on-site from any participating library.

This means current students, faculty and staff at the RHEC affiliated with either James Madison University, Mary Baldwin University, Old Dominion University, Radford University, University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Tech, or Virginia Western Community College are able to borrow materials for free from 50 college and university libraries state-wide.
