Pastor Jeff Smith
"Don't you know me, Philip? Even after I've been with you for such a long time?"
John 14:9

Since we came to Leo two years ago, we’ve begun to get to know you. But perhaps not as well as we would like to. Normally, when Rhonda and I have begun a new appointment in a United Methodist Church, we meet with members of the congregation in small groups of ten to twelve folks in people’s homes. That gives us a chance to get to know you a bit more intimately, and for you to get the opportunity to know us.
But it also gives your pastor a chance to hear your dreams and visions for our church.
We didn’t get to do that with you folks though. If you recall, when we came to Leo two years ago, we were right in the middle of the Covid 19 pandemic and such meetings were at best ill-advised, and at worse, possibly dangerous.
And it wasn’t just a lost opportunity with your new pastor. Covid 19 forced us apart from each other. Between months of digital worship only and six feet of social distancing, we lost a bit of our church family connection.
Here’s the good news! We will be having many of these “getting to know you” meetings all throughout the month of July. I would like to strongly encourage you to sign up for one. The signup sheets are available in Fellowship Hall on Sunday mornings, and in the church office during weekly office hours. Friends, I’m really looking forward to getting to know many of you a whole lot better and some of you, getting to know you, really know you, for perhaps the first time.
See you soon!
Pastor Jeff
Attend A Cottage Meeting!
Cottage meetings are gatherings of God’s people in a home. They have been used in churches for various reasons, but your Staff Parish Committee propose having them at Leo UMC for the following reasons:

  • When Pastor Jeff and Rhonda came in the Spring of 2020, it was at the beginning of the pandemic, and they never had the opportunity to “properly” meet all of us!
  • We need to meet each other. We spent a lot of time over the last two years meeting virtually, wearing masks, and socially distancing. It is time to re-connect!
  • So much has changed in all our lives over the last two years; we all experienced losses of some type, and normal today is not the normal of two years ago. We care about each other and want to hear your stories.
  • At some point, we need to talk about the future of our church. We can’t do this unless we are comfortable talking with each other. Cottage meetings are a first step.
Pastor Jeff and Rhonda will attend all the meetings. Various members of the SPRC committee and church family have agreed to host. You do not need to bring anything but yourselves, and children are joyfully welcomed.
Sign-up sheets are available each Sunday before and after worship service, or you can sign up by calling the church office (260-627-2161). Or you can contact me, Jackie Myers, Chairperson of the SPRC committee (260-437-4394 or by email )
We are seeking 100% attendance and have scheduled meetings at various times and days of the week:
Monday, June 27 at 7:00 pm
Tuesday, June 28 at 10 am
Thursday, July 7 at 7:00 pm
Tuesday, July 12 at 10 am
Thursday, July 14 at 7 pm
Saturday, July 16 at 9 am
Sunday, July 17 at 6:30 pm
Tuesday, July 19 at 7:00 pm
Tuesday, July 26 at 7:00 pm
Thursday, July 28 at 7:00 pm
We understand time is a precious resource. Thank you for contributing an hour (or so) of your time to this important next step in the life of our church!
