I cannot believe our year is half way over. This month is going to be fantastic with a Cynthia England. Cynthia is an international fiber artist, pattern designer and author. She is known for the technique she developed called "Picture Piecing".

One of her quilts, "Piece and Quiet" was distinguished as one of the Hundred Best Quilts of the 20th Century.

She has received many awards for her work; including three Best of Show awards at the prestigious International Quilt Festival.

Join us for a special meeting August 8th. The workshop is August 9 and it is completely full for the workshop with 24 people. 

Five people agreed to be on the nominating committee, but only two responded when asked about a meeting time due to travel and other issues. The nominating committee met July 28, 2024 at 5 p.m. and consisted of Lynn Bergin and Denise Edge, the vice-president. We have volunteers for all but one position

At this time we are on the lookout for someone to take on the role of Vice President for the upcoming year.

Have you ever considered taking on this role? It may seem daunting, but rest assured that everything you need to know is outlined in a convenient notebook.

As VP, you will have the exciting task of arranging speakers for the following year when you step into the role of President. This opportunity allows you to showcase your leadership skills, connect with the quilting community, and ultimately make a significant impact within our guild.

Our club relies on volunteers for every part of the guild. Volunteering takes time, but not-for-profit groups rely on people giving their time and talents.

Madison Station Quilt Guild, Secretary’s Report

General Membership Meeting, July 11^th, 2024

Location: St Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 786 Hughes Road, Madison, AL 35758

Attendance: 48 members (4 new members), 5 visitors

Call-to Order: Meeting was started at 6:30 pm by President Sue Bartlow

Old Business: 

·       A motion to approve the June meeting minutes was made, seconded and approved.

New Business:

·       Donation gifts: Three “bee” themed baskets with gift cards from Patches and Stitches, Barb’s Sewing Center and Sweet Home Quilting were awarded Two additional $10 gift cards from Sweet Home Quilting were awarded. One member thank you gift of a $20 gift card from Three Hens and a Chick was awarded.

·       Keith from Grandparents as Parents spoke about the organization, what it does and how the guild’s charity quilts are shared with some of the 300,000 family members in need throughout Alabama. Forty-two quilts have been collected so far this year and the goal is 75-100 quilts.

·       The upcoming August 9^th workshop being conducted by our August speaker, Cynthia England is full.

Speaker: Barbara Carlson spoke about Whimsical Portrait making with quilts and shared many fun, lively and colorful examples.

Show-and-Tell: Seven members shared twenty projects.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:27 pm.
