WDB MV Build Pathways to Apprenticeship Cohort 2 Success Story
By Meghan McBennett, Project Director
In May, the WDB Mohawk Valley Build Pathways to Apprenticeship Program celebrated the success of eight participants who graduated from Cohort 2. Throughout the twelve-week program, participants earned industry-recognized credentials, career-readiness training, gained hands-on construction experience, and explored union apprenticeship opportunities through speaking with local building trades union representatives. This opportunity gained them valuable insight into the many career paths in the building trades.
One graduate's success story stands out as a testament to the impact the program has. A presentation from the IBEW Local 43 was life-changing for this participant. He became interested in pursuing a career as a union electrician after hearing about the career. Motivated by this opportunity, he submitted an application, took the highly competitive aptitude test, and passed, an accomplishment no previous Pathways participant has achieved. He advanced to the interview stage, where he scored 5th on the ranking list. He will begin his apprenticeship training this week and take the first steps toward becoming a skilled Journeyperson Electrician. His wife is due to have their 3rd child any day, and this new opportunity will be life-changing for their growing family.
This success is just one example of the positive outcomes from the program. Several other Cohort 2 graduates have applied to apprenticeship programs with the Carpenters, Plumbers and Pipefitters, Painters, Operating Engineers, and the Insulators Unions, positioning themselves for long-term careers.
The success of Cohort 2 would not have been possible without the support of our partners, union representatives, and instructors, who invested their time and expertise into helping participants succeed. Together, we are building a stronger workforce and creating pathways to meaningful careers throughout the region.
Congratulations, Graduates!
