Wishing the Best to Michelle

Michelle will be leaving Jellison CPA to pursue other opportunities and spend more time with her family. Michelle has been an integral part of the Jellison CPA team and she will be missed by all. If you have a moment to drop an email to Michelle and wish her well, her last day will be Aug 11th.

Are You Entering the Workforce?

If you are a recent graduate or you are entering the workforce for the first time, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Get your withholding right. If you're unsure how to complete your W4, you can use the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator as a guide. It's important to complete this form correctly to help avoid an unexpected tax bill.
  2. Understand your classification. Are you a contractor or an employee? There's an important distinction between the two. Workers who are independent contractors need to pay their taxes directly. Depending on how much you earn, you may need to make estimated tax payments.
  3. Retain your documents. Employers will send W2s and 1099s in January. Keep these in a safe place to ensure you have access to them when you file your tax return.

IRS Delays

The IRS is still experiencing unprecedented delays, with an even bigger backlog than last year. According to the National Taxpayer Advocate, it's taking the IRS six-months to one year to process paper returns.

The good news is that the IRS is processing returns at a quicker rate than last year and they are making progress on the inventory. If you are waiting on correspondence from the IRS, please continue to be patient.
