An International Educational Experience
While in Italy recently, I located the study abroad campuses of Gonzaga, as well as Kent State & Webster University (shown here), which are just a few blocks away from the Duomo and the historic center of Florence.
This campus discovery was the inspiration for this month's newsletter about international educational experiences, or study abroad programs.
Studying abroad enables college students to learn about and experience different cultures and perspectives while gaining valuable skills and knowledge that will set them apart in today's competitive job market.
Colleges and universities set up their study abroad categories in a variety of different ways. Typically, study abroad programs are for a full semester and most of the time, it's Juniors studying abroad. Many schools also offer short term study abroad programs - approximately three weeks or so - which can be ideal for some students who may have other commitments such as sports which would not otherwise not be conducive to spending the season away.
Did you know that there are many different study abroad programs and a student doesn't necessarily have to speak the language to enroll? From business study abroad programs in Spain, to photography programs in Australia, technology programs in Singapore, art and fashion programs in Italy and Paris, history studies in Greece, to political science and media communication studies in England or engineering projects in India – these and many other options are available all over the world through various university programs.
One of the best things about studying abroad is that students are able to earn academic credit from their experience abroad and oftentimes it can be no more expensive than staying on campus (minus cost of transportation).
