Gym News:


We are excited to be adding Boot Camp on Saturday mornings in La Plata! Come join Shelley and Meg for a challenging group class!


Joanie is also adding another sets n reps on Wednesday mornings at 10:30am in La Plata. Check out the updated schedule to see all her offerings!



We will be unstaffed Friday, July 4th. The gym will be open to members via app/key tag entry.



Martial Arts News:

We will be closed for classes on Friday, July 4th & Saturday, July 5th. We will resume classes Monday, July 7th. Have a safe weekend!

As we step into a new month, it’s the perfect time to focus on the vital qualities of adaptability and flexibility—two essential components that can elevate your taekwondo practice and enrich your life beyond the mats.


Understanding Adaptability and Flexibility

Adaptability is the ability to adjust your approach or techniques based on the circumstances or challenges you face. In taekwondo, this could mean switching strategies during sparring, modifying your stance to counter an opponent’s moves, or even overcoming unexpected obstacles in your training routine. Flexibility, on the other hand, refers to both physical flexibility—how far your body can stretch and move—and mental flexibility—your capacity to think creatively and change your mindset as needed.

Why These Qualities Matter

  1. Enhancing Performance: In a dynamic sport like taekwondo, opponents will have their unique styles and techniques. Being adaptable allows you to respond effectively, making you a more formidable competitor. Those who can quickly adjust their tactics often find success in sparring and competitions.
  2. Injury Prevention: Physical flexibility not only improves your kicks and techniques but also helps prevent injuries. A flexible body is less prone to strains and sprains, allowing you to train consistently and safely.
