Education, Health, and Sciences Grant Round

Helpful Harvest Grant Round

Apply October 2 - October 31

To help nonprofits meeting increased Herkimer and Oneida county resident need stemming from economic difficulty and food insecurity, we've established the Helpful Harvest Fund. To ensure the greatest possible impact for the fund’s awards, we are seeking information from human service organizations including, but not limited to, food pantries, soup kitchens, and/or shelters. Eligibility details are available on our Funding Opportunities page.

Funding Opportunities Catalog

Our online directory of nonprofit “asks,” the Funding Opportunities Catalog, gives organizations like yours a quick-and-easy way to let our fundholders know what you need. The catalog includes brief summaries about each organization and a project, program, or other funding request that needs support in the next 3-6 months. If an item goes unfunded for 90 days, it will be removed from the catalog and the nonprofit can resubmit it.

Nonprofit Spotlight

Western Town Library

Located in Westernville, the Western Town Library provides library materials and computer access, and hosts programs and events for the community—including a recent open house, and a centennial celebration! To mark the 100th anniversary of its founding, the library unveiled a new playground, built with Mohawk Valley Gives support, at a July 8 ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Honoring Ron and Sheila Cuccaro

A Utica couple whose generosity has touched countless lives over the last two decades has received the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties’ highest award for community philanthropy.

Ron and Sheila Cuccaro of Utica were honored at our July 26 Celebration of Philanthropy event at Utica’s Delta Hotel by Marriott, presented with support from Rising Phoenix Holdings Corporation, and Stephen and Gina Surace. About 200 attendees joined current and past Community Foundation board members in recognizing the Cuccaros’ commitment to the community.

“Ron and Sheila have demonstrated how personal dedication to community, in partnership with the Community Foundation and nonprofit organizations, can turn philanthropic commitment into lifechanging impact,” said Alicia Fernandez Dicks, president/CEO of the Community Foundation. “The Rosamond Childs Award for Community Philanthropy recognizes their deep and continuing selflessness, leadership, compassion, and generosity.”

Congratulations, Ron and Sheila!
