Pennsylvania Budget Deadline Passes Without Deal As Negotiations Continue In Harrisburg

James Corrigan, Harrisburg FOX 43

June 30, 2026

Pennsylvania lawmakers missed another state budget deadline Tuesday, with negotiations continuing between Senate Republicans, House Democrats and Gov. Josh Shapiro over a spending plan for the 2026-27 fiscal year. While no agreement has been reached, leaders from both parties say talks have made significant progress and remain optimistic that a final budget deal can be completed in the coming days. Republican leaders in both chambers remain focused on the overall size of the state budget, saying they hope to keep total spending below the $53.3 billion proposal Gov. Shapiro introduced in February. Despite the missed June 30 deadline, leaders on both sides of the aisle say they want to avoid a repeat of last year's prolonged budget negotiations, which stretched 135 days beyond the constitutional deadline. Although the Senate has adjourned for the remainder of the week, the Pennsylvania House still has voting sessions scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday as budget negotiations continue.

Last Friday, we had the pleasure of partnering with the incredible The Playhouse at McConnellstown for a special Chamber performance of Muffed: A Recounting of Farmington, Maine's 43rd Annual Chester Greenwood Day, devised by the Members of the Meaningful Action Theatre Company.

This hilarious mockumentary-style production had us laughing from start to finish as an ensemble of talented actors brought to life the wonderfully chaotic lead-up to Farmington's delightfully quirky celebration of Chester Greenwood—the inventor of earmuffs. (And yes... Chester Greenwood Day is a real event! )

Before the curtain rose, guests enjoyed an evening reception filled with great conversation, networking, and fellowship, making it the perfect way to connect before settling in for an unforgettable performance.

A heartfelt thank you to our generous sponsors and to the amazing team at the Playhouse at McConnellstown for helping make this event such a memorable success. We are grateful for your partnership and for bringing outstanding live theatre to our community.

We’re already looking forward to next year's Chamber Night at the Playhouse and can't wait to see what creative masterpiece takes the stage next!

With Big Boy making its way to Huntingdon, the Chamber staff has been hard at work giving Hunt Tower a well-deserved refresh in preparation for the thousands of visitors expected to enjoy the festivities.

Over the past several weeks, we've rolled up our sleeves and tackled projects both inside and outside the historic landmark. From spreading fresh mulch and planting colorful flowers to touching up areas with fresh spray paint, pressure washing the exterior, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and organizing the upstairs storage areas, every project has helped make Hunt Tower shine.

Let's just say there has been plenty of sweat, a little dirt, a few sore muscles, and more than a few laughs along the way! While some projects were more glamorous than others (we're looking at you, upstairs storage!), every task was worth it to help showcase one of Huntingdon's treasured historic buildings.

We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to the Borough of Huntingdon for generously allowing us to borrow their pressure washer. Their partnership and willingness to lend a helping hand made a tremendous difference in giving the exterior of Hunt Tower a fresh, clean appearance.

Although Hunt Tower will not be open for tours during the Big Boy festivities, we encourage everyone to stop by to enjoy the beautifully refreshed grounds and experience all the excitement surrounding the property. The amazing people from East Broad Top Railroad will be joining us as well and we encourage you to chat with them!

While you're in the neighborhood, don't miss another special opportunity! Just across the street, the Swigart Museum will be hosting a special open house featuring one of its vehicle storage locations. It's a rare chance to see part of the museum's remarkable collection that isn't typically on display, making it the perfect addition to your Big Boy weekend itinerary.

We look forward to welcoming visitors from near and far and hope everyone enjoys an unforgettable weekend celebrating railroad history, community, and all that Huntingdon has to offer!

Did you know........

Small businesses represent the largest segment by number of most local chamber membership rolls. Results in the research study by The Shapiro Group, Inc. and Market Street indicate the impact of local chamber membership on small businesses is very powerful. If a consumer knows a small business is a member of its local chamber, the business enjoys a 44 percent increase in its consumer favorability rating, a 51 percent increase in consumer awareness, a 57 percent increase in its local reputation and a 63 percent increase in the likelihood that consumers will patronize the business in the future.

Research indicates that chamber membership stimulates business-to-business commerce in the local community. Other businesses in town are more likely to do business with you and your company if you are a member of the local chamber. Because a major part of a small business typically comes from business-to-business services, it is essential to maintain a positive standing within the local business community.
