During the summer months, many families like to plan fun activities to do with their children. Common places to go are parks, swimming pools, zoos, or the local library. Doing activities with our children can be an enjoyable way to spend time together and make memories. Sometimes those enjoyable experiences with our children can turn into frustrating moments, especially if you have a toddler who becomes upset and has a tantrum or meltdown.

Tantrums are a normal part of development. It is common for children around 18 months to three years to have tantrums and meltdowns. During this time, children do not always have the words to communicate their wants and needs and they show their frustration through strong emotions. Toddlers are also growing in their independence and have a need to assert themselves. Words that you may frequently hear from your little one are “no” “mine” and “me do it.” In short, toddlers want what they want when they want it. This can make parenting difficult and stressful.
