Photographs of Acadia

National Park by Southwest Harbor artist Gordon Wissinger will be on exhibit in the Community Room at Harbor House in Southwest Harbor. The exhibit is open daily from July 2 through July 31.  An opening reception will be held on July 2 from 6 to 8 pm.  It is open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.

For Gordon, Photography is his first and most lasting creative outlet; a way to slow down and look at the world around him. It gives him an excuse to wander outside, seemingly aimlessly, and allows him time to observe the world around him without seeming like a kook. These wanderings usually lead to some interesting thoughts and endeavors.  By pursuing photography, he has the permission to explore and create and think differently.  It complements the life he lives.

While his photographs are generally created in the grand landscape tradition, each image is a unique interpretation of the natural world.  The goal for Gordon is to produce "quiet" images that allow the viewer to slow down and observe the world around them, to see what is usually missed in the hustle of everyday life.

Five years ago, Gordongordo 2

and his wife moved to Southwest Harbor after purchasing Acadia Cottages. The move gave Gordon the opportunity to turn his lens on Acadia National Park and the natural beauty of Mount Desert Island. The images to be displayed at Harbor House represent the best of the resulting images.  While many photographers have photographed in and around Acadia National Park, the images in this exhibit present a different, quieter view of the park.  Included in this exhibition are images from his latest, ongoing project that explore the stone bridges on the carriage roads in Acadia.

More information about Gordon and more of his work can be found on his web-site:  www.WissingerPhotographic.com. He also curates a web-site that is updated quarterly with photographic portfolios, which can be found at www.gwissphoto.com. When he's not photographing, he and his wife own and run Acadia Cottages in Southwest Harbor, Maine.
