The Domes Need Your Voice!

With the recent news coming to light about the potential demolition of one or more of the Domes, MPA is calling on our incredible supporters to help us fight for Our Domes. Ways you can help:

  • Contact your local elected officials using the format below, edited to your voice:

Dear [insert elected official name]

My name is [insert name] and I am a constituent of [Insert your District #].

I am writing to you to voice my concerns over the comments that emerged from the Committee on Parks and Culture on July 18th that degraded preservation and threatened the future of the Mitchell Park Domes. The Domes are a city-wide treasure with intrinsic historic value and significance. They are not merely an iconic structure utilized by suburbanites, but a stunning historic landmark that is visited by people from around the globe.

I urge you to stand for the preservation and reconstruction of the three existing Domes, as the most sustainable building is the one already standing. The Domes are a National Treasure, and their contribution as an example of stunning Mid-century Modern architecture goes unmatched anywhere else in the country.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Preservation Hot Take: Brady Street Pedestrianization Study

MPA is proud to support the proposal for enhancing safety and pedestrian access in the Brady Street Corridor. There are thousands of examples across our globe of the benefits of pedestrianizing a high-traffic neighborhood thoroughfare, and in the eyes of MPA this proposal will greatly benefit not only the safety and well being of visitors to Brady street, but the overall experience of historic street-front. Preservation at Risk

Each month, MPA will use this section to feature buildings and sites we consider to be “at-risk” of demolition - either imminent or in the future.

What MPA is doing:

We are trying to secure a cost estimate to move the Stoddard Martin House from its current location to a vacant infill site. If you have any advice or insight into moving historic buildings or want to get more involved, please contact us at [email protected]

What MPA is doing:

We are in contact with the UMC for Greater Wisconsin to try and keep a vested interest in whoever the purchaser of the building may be. We will encourage them to preserve all or major parts of the building in lieu of demolition. If you have any suggestions or stories to share about Summerfield Church, please feel free to contact us at [email protected]
