Galileo Galilei, the Starry Messenger -

Live Action History

Saturday, July 19th

12:30-2:00pm


The Starry Messenger is a dramatic, fun-filled adaptation of Galileo's short treatise Siderius Nuncius. Galileo (dressed in 17th century costume) will lecture on his most recent discoveries made using his newly devised spyglass. Throughout the presentation your esteemed scientists are actively involved in experiments and demonstrations, with ample time at the end for questions from curious onlookers.

Summer Movie - The Wild Robot

Tuesday, July 29th

6:00-8:00pm


Bring dinner, snacks, blankets, pillows and get comfy for a family-friendly movie. Please note, this is not a drop off program and adults must also attend.


Open to all ages. Rated PG, 101 mins.


After a shipwreck, an intelligent robot called Roz is stranded on an uninhabited island.

Don't forget to come by the library for your reading log. If you're doing Read and Bead, pick out a chain and brag tag too!



Kids (Ages 0-12): Read and Bead. Earn beads all summer long! Every 15 minutes earns you a bead. Save up your time to get bigger and cooler beads. After registering please stop by the library - starting on June 9th - to pick up your reading log, brag tag, and chain to start your read and bead necklace. 


Tween (rising 4-6th graders): Choose your adventure: Read and Bead or a Tween Raffle. Earn beads by the minute or earn raffle tickets by the book! Put your tickets toward trying to win exciting prizes. 


Teens (rising 7-12th graders): Teen Raffle. Earn a raffle ticket for each book you read to try and win prizes.


Adults (Ages 19+): For every book read, please fill out a raffle ticket to enter to win a prize basket.


All prizes are sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Concert Film Series - Jazz on a Summer's Day

Jazz on a Summer's Day is a concert film set at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival in Newport, Rhode Island. The film features performances by Jimmy Giuffre, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Stitt, Anita O'Day, Dinah Washington, Gerry Mulligan, Chuck Berry, Chico Hamilton with Eric Dolphy, Louis Armstrong with Jack Teagarden, and Mahalia Jackson.


Registration is appreciated but not required. Light refreshments will be served.

Norfolk Memory Café

A Memory Café is a welcoming social gathering for people living with memory changes or dementia, and their caregivers, offering a safe and supportive environment for interaction, activities, and connection. Join other foodies at Read It and Eat It where we will be discussing different chefs, cuisines, or regions. Come share your experiments, experiences, triumphs, and tragedies from trying different recipes. Bring your favorite dish to share with the group.


July: From the Garden - take advantage of all the great locally grown produce from your garden, a farmer's market, or one of the great farms in the area. Please bring a copy of your recipe.

Puzzle Meet Up and Swap

A casual meet up for puzzle enthusiasts to unwind, relax, and get out of the heat. Stop by and work on a puzzle. There will also be a swap table. Bring a puzzle to swap out for a new one to work on!

Paws to Read For Summer Reading

Bubble Party!

Bubbles, bubbles, everywhere! Enjoy a half hour of nothing but bubbles and fun music. Bubble trays will be spread around Town Hill and in the gazebo! In the event of inclement weather the program will become a dance party inside the air-conditioned Community Room.

Summer Baby Time with Miss Chelsea

Join Miss Chelsea for fun with your little one! Music and play for babies and their caregivers. Ages 0-16 months with an adult. Join us in Story Hour Room (through the big door inside the kids' picture book room)! All toys are washed and sanitized after each session.

Summer Surprises Storytime

Join Miss Allison for outdoor storytime fun (and maybe a surprise or two!). Get moving with songs, books, and music on Town Hill! Bring a blanket to sit on. In the event of inclement weather, this program will be held in the Community Room inside the library.
