2019 July School Holidays program is available now 

J oin us for another fun and inspiring school holiday at City of Canada Bay Libraries in Concord, Five Dock and Rhodes for kids and youth. Bookings are essential for all our school holiday events and workshops due to limited capacity. Young and old are also welcome to join our week-long celebration of Comic Con-versation 2019.

Concord Library

For ages 12-18: 
Free event: Tuesday, 9 July at 2-4.30pm

This action-packed movie tells the origin story of Arthur Curry (Aquaman), half-human and half-Atlantean. Watch as he discovers who he really is - and if he's worthy of who he was born to be... a king. 

Note this movie is rated M. 

Please get your parents' permission to come along.
Free event: Thursday, 18 July at 2.30-3.30pm


Based on traditional children's stories from Japan the performance tells the story of Oshin, a poor peasant, who in a day of very 'good luck' acquires a sail boat and saves a bird. Together they embark on a journey over the Sea of Japan meeting a host of marvellous characters who share tales of magic, bravery, kindness and friendship.

Join us to celebrate NAIDOC Week these school holidays. 

Gwenda Stanley is from Moree in North Western NSW and belongs to the Corben Gomeroi people. She  has delighted children of all ages for many years with her natural, engaging and gentle manner. 

Gwenda  will use dance, story, artefacts and language to share her unique and rich Aboriginal culture. She  brings a deep knowledge and passion for her culture to every performance.

Unleash your creativity with Little Bits - a crafty, fun and accessible way to get started with electronic circuits. This free session is for inquisitive kids who love making things spin, light up, and make noise! For children aged 8 years and under, a parent or carer must remain present for the duration of the workshop.

Learn about the art of henna in this hands-on workshop with Polina Volkova. Note: Please wear old clothes as henna may stain fabric.

Channel your inner filmmaker in this special family workshop where we'll be creating our very own stop-motion animations.Tell a fun story, bring characters to life, and get tricky with special effects using iPads! Best of all you'll get to show your work on the big screen, as we'll be screening the finished animations in The Digital Gallery. Note: One ticket is for one child (aged 7-14) and one adult.

Love to draw, and keen to try something completely new?  Create a new world of colours in this fun and unique family activity that combines hands-on artmaking with the virtual world. Join us as we use augmented reality (AR) to overlay the physical world with the digital!
Ticketed event for ages 7-10: Monday, 15 July at 10.30am-1pm [Cost: $45]

Keen to learn how to design and print 3D objects? We'll get you started with this introduction to 3D modelling using Fusion 360, and a chance to see our 3D printers in action. Please ensure your child is within the correct age range for relevant workshop. For children aged 8 years and under, a parent or carer must remain in The Learning Space for the duration of the workshop.

Comic Con-versation 2019  

City of Canada Bay Libraries

Join us to celebrate all things comics! Comic Con-versation is a week-long festival celebrating local comic creators in libraries throughout Sydney.

Free exhibition for all ages during opening hours: Monday, 24 June-Sunday, 14 July


Renown comic artist, Queenie Chan will be returning to Concord Library with an art exhibition in the theme of diversity. Queenie first debuted with a three-volume mystery-horror series called The Dreaming, for LA-based manga publisher TOKYOPOP, which has been translated into multiple languages. She has since collaborated on several single-volume graphic novels with best-selling author Dean Koontz, as prequels to his Odd Thomas series of novels. She has also worked on Small Shen, the prequel to Kylie Chan's White Tiger Chinese fantasy series, followed by Fabled Kingdom, just to mention a few projects.

The Learning Space is proud to present the exhibition Art in Sequence, featuring talented local comic artists.  From fantasy adventures, crime thrillers, and witty commentaries on day-to-day life, these artists employ strikingly unique graphic styles that illustrate the scope and creative potential of storytelling through comics.

All artists in this exhibition are members of The Sydney Comics Guild - a local community of comic creators who work together to support the creation of graphic novels, web comics, and zines throughout Sydney.

Join us for a night of fun and show off your amazing superhero knowledge. Great prizes to be won.
Maximum of eight people per group. Come as your favourite superhero - best dressed wins a prize!

Join us in this craft workshop and create a comic book cap to take home.

Please note: The glue used in this activity will take 24 hours to dry. You have the option to take your cap home to dry or pick it up the next day at Concord Library.

Free event for ages 7-11: Saturday, 20 July at 2-4pm


Bring your favourite superheroes to life as we explore comic-style storytelling. You'll make flip books, comic zines, optical illusion toys, and more. No prior drawing skills necessary.  Please note this is an age appropriate workshop. For children aged 8 years and under, a parent or carer must remain in The Learning Space for the duration of the workshop.  Bookings are essential.
