As primary educators, parents should be able to choose a school that best fits their child's academic and spiritual needs. Ohio established a parental choice scholarship many years ago called EdChoice, a program that has significantly impacted the families and students in our school. Ohio legislators have been working tirelessly to expand this program, and Governor DeWine recently signed a bill that does just that!
This new legislation includes the following:
- All Ohio families with an income up to 450% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) are now eligible for an EdChoice Scholarship.
- All Ohio families with an income greater than 450% of the Federal Poverty Level will qualify for a reduced EdChoice Scholarship.
-
The projected EdChoice Scholarship amount for the 2023-2024 school year is $6,165 for elementary school students.
In summary, All Ohio students are now eligible for a full or reduced EdChoice Scholarship!
How do I apply for an EdChoice Scholarship?
The family will submit an EdChoice application to St. Mary School and supporting documentation. The Ohio Department of Education is still working through the details of the application and awarding process. We will send additional information to you when it becomes available.
Do I still owe tuition if applying for an EdChoice Scholarship?
Yes. Again, the application process is still being worked out unless you have already been awarded an EdChoice Scholarship. Tuition payments will continue to be collected on the scheduled dates. If a refund is eventually warranted, we will refund the overpayment.
Will my child(ren) qualify for a full EdChoice Scholarship?
This depends on where your family's AGI (adjusted gross income) falls within the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) chart. Here is a preliminary FPL chart the Archdiocese shared with us. Please note that the Ohio Department of Education has NOT released these amounts and are subject to change.
Will my family still owe an out-of-pocket tuition balance?
Ohio EdChoice qualifies families at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level Guidelines as low-income. The law states that low-income families are not required to cover any remaining tuition balance but can be billed fees. Those above 200% are billed the gap between the scholarship amount and tuition and fees.
When will the school provide more details?
We will reach out to you as soon as we learn more regarding the application process. Making these scholarships available to all is no small undertaking. We ask for your patience as the Ohio Department of Education, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, and our school works through the application details.
