go with the flow - free the Deschutes!

Hello and happy summer!

DERT has had a big year, with the final EIS for the long-term management of the Deschutes Estuary recommending the alternative that DERT has long championed – the full restoration of the Deschutes Estuary.

What’s more, DERT has brought on a new Operations and Development Associate, Casey Allen, and a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Manager, Caroline Slagle. In addition to our recent victory and new hires, we are delighted to announce details about an exciting volunteer training opportunity in microplastics monitoring.

As a non-profit organization we rely on grants and fundraising to maintain the capacity to serve our community, through public education and political advocacy. While we continue to strive for the full restoration of the Deschutes Estuary and advocate for its long-term management, we kindly ask that you consider making a donation to the Deschutes Estuary Restoration Team. Thanks to donors like you, we will work towards restoring and preserving the Deschutes Estuary for generations to come.

You are part of the vision and hard work that guarantees the Deschutes River WILL meet Puget Sound without a barrier. Together, we will continue to advocate for the restoration of our urban estuary. Please consider donating to DERT today.

DERT HAS A NEW WATER RESOURCES INTERN

DERT is excited to have Jon Carpenter joining the organization as an intern to help develop a Deschutes Watershed Council. He will be working closely with the team to help research and coordinate the beginnings of the council, developing content for member introductions and council operations. Jon recently moved back to his hometown of Olympia WA after spending a decade working in the Thoroughbred breeding industry in Lexington KY. Prior to making the decision to move home with his family, he enrolled in Oregon State’s Masters of Natural Resource program which he will complete this coming winter. Along with his graduate work, he works in the Aquatic Policy division at the Washington State Department of Natural Resources. In his personal time Jon enjoys skiing, golfing, and kayaking. However, he finds the most satisfaction by spending quality time with his wife Arielle, child Theodore, and his two dogs Griffey and Wilson.

You are part of the vision and hard work that guarantees the Deschutes River WILL meet Puget Sound without a barrier. Together, we will continue to advocate for the restoration of our urban estuary. Please consider donating to DERT today.
