Conservation Committee Update

Helping to lower the impact each person has on the Earth should be a goal for every Scout. As adult leaders, helping Scouts become conservation minded starts by knowing how to find the BSA’s conservation resources and awards. One of the best conservation resources to have in a unit library is the BSA Conservation Handbook. The current version can be ordered through the Council Scout Shop.

Many of the outdoor awards are conservation related or have service projects that may require a conservation theme. Some are individual awards, while others are unit awards. They can be found here: Outdoor Awards. Each unit should be considering a conservation-related Good Turn project.

The history of the Outdoor Code and an introduction to the Distinguished Conservation Service Award can be found here: Conservation and Environment.

Questions and queries about BSA conservation topics can be sent to the WCC Outdoor Ethics and Conservation Committee Chair, Ray Hoskinson. The committee is also looking for conservation minded adults to help achieve Scouting's conservation mission throughout the council.

Den Leader Training

A trained Den Leader is the key to retaining Cub Scouts in the program. To assist packs, the council’s training committee provides several different options for training including:

In-person pack visits

  • Have a few leaders in your pack in need of training? The training committee has trainers who will come to your pack and provide Den Leader training. For more information contact: John Nieradka

Regional Training Meetings

  • The training committee will hold Den Leader training meetings Friday, October 10 at Ockanickon Scout Reservation in Pipersville, PA and Saturday, November 1 at Fisher Middle School in Ewing, NJ.
