Dear Stanwich Parents,

Work has begun in earnest clearing as necessary for the waterline and roads to the new field and water treatment plant. We are hopeful that the final building permit for the expanded West Wing will be securing this week and that construction can begin soon thereafter.
After July 4, summer accelerates to Labor Day. Please remember to complete the necessary paperwork - health forms, etc. in MyBackpack - and if you live in Westchester and plan to take advantage of public school transportation, sign up with your local municipality.
At our year end faculty party, we said farewell to departing teachers who are retiring or moving to new opportunities elsewhere. Replacing Alexa Prunotto, Stephanie Davidow will teach JH English. Stephanie received her BA in English from Syracuse and an MA in Secondary English Education from Columbia. Stephanie brings with her good experience with middle school aged students at Leman Manhattan Preparatory School, Vanguard High School, and Corpus Christi School all in the city.
In Senior House math, Annette  Iversen graduated from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, majoring in Quantitative Methods. She worked in the field of mathematical finance for nine years for JP Morgan and Credit Suisse in Europe and the United States. In 2008, she returned to school to earn a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics Education from Teacher's College, Columbia University, New York, NY.  Annette worked as Upper School Mathematics Teacher and Curriculum leader at Whitby School from 2011 to 2018 and, prior to that, taught math in both the middle and high school levels at Hommocks Middle School in Larchmont and Greenwich High School, respectively.  In addition to her proficiency in math, she speaks several languages such as German, French, Greek and a bit of Spanish.
Following Ms. Garcia, Liliana Amodeo will join the Upper School as a Spanish teacher. She is a native speaker from Argentina who also is fluent in Italian. Liliana received her master's degree from Fairfield University and has over 5 years of teaching experience in Spanish and Italian.
Next year we will welcome Irene Brun to Stanwich as the Lower School Spanish teacher. Irene joins us from Pear Tree Point School, with fourteen plus years of experience in the classroom. She is a native speaker from Colombia and believes in teaching Spanish by immersing the students in the language, along with the culture of Spanish speaking countries. Irene is known for her curriculum development and collaboration, allowing great opportunities for cross curricular learning. We look forward to welcoming Irene in September.
Melissa Stoll joins Stanwich as an Early Elementary Co-teacher. After graduating from University of Delaware with a BA in Early Childhood Education, she received an MA from Manhattanville in Teaching Literacy.
In early August, Mr. Ramirez will begin working in the college counseling office located next to the Main Office on the ground floor of the Upper School building. Business Office functions will be relocated to that area as well during the transition year. In my August letter I will communicate the final hires for the new school year and whatever logistic updates may be necessary. More detailed information concerning schedules and teacher assignments will come from the Division office next month as well.
To elaborate on a quote of the month, "Putin's fine ... we're all fine", and love this summertime.
Sincerely,

Charles Sachs
Head of School
