Support NCC through #ONEDAY Critical Needs Campaign
|
|
Did you know you can help someone get a job that pays enough to support their family?
You can! How? Make a donation to New Century Careers on Tuesday, August 9, through the #ONEDAY Critical Needs Alert and your contribution will help an unemployed neighbor or low-wage worker earn a living wage in the manufacturing field.
Sponsored by The Pittsburgh Foundation and its affiliate The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County, this event is designed to continue to help local communities survive the pandemic.
New Century Careers was selected as one of the nonprofits providing essential human services—employment and training among them -- that can get a significant boost by qualifying for additional funds.
From 8 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday August 9, every donation to NCC of $25 or more at www.pittsburghgives.org that day triggers additional prorated funding from a $532,000 incentive pool provided by The Pittsburgh Foundation, The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County, and their donors.
This is your chance to support New Century Careers with the potential to increase the value of your contribution. Your contribution can help NCC sustain its manufacturing training programs that serve vulnerable populations, including people in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties facing job insecurity.
It’s a Day of Online Giving for Organizations Doing Vital Work.
Mark Your Calendars for Tuesday, August 9, and be Part of Something Great!

Applications now open for 2022-23 WEDnetPA training funds
|
|
The 2022-23 application period is now open for WEDnetPA, a program that provides qualified employers training for new and incumbent employees.
Eligible in-state businesses and out-of-state companies relocating to Pennsylvania apply to WEDnetPA to access training funds that can be used for dozens of training topics to keep employee skills current and relevant.
The program was created in 1999 by the Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED) and made available through the Workforce and Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania (WEDnetPA).
It is designed to be responsive to the needs of Pennsylvania's businesses through a flexible and easy-to-use system. Businesses determine their own training needs and can select among a wide range of training providers (the WEDnetPA partners, third-party providers or in-house staff) as well as how and where the businesses will receive the training (onsite, offsite or online).

It's never too late to try something new!

Sheila White’s radiant smile reflects her vibrant personality as well as her passion for the mission of New Century Careers.
Retiring after 22 years as executive assistant at the Mon Valley Initiative, a nonprofit that helps to rebuild community infrastructure and connect employers to job seekers, Sheila found herself looking for a new opportunity to share her knowledge and also learn something new.
NCC was a match! Sheila started as a temp in 2019 in Student Services and was hired part-time to assist with various administrative duties, employing accounting and other software, including Peachtree, Salesforce and Constant Contact.
She advises NCC trainees and job seekers to be open to knowledge. “You can have a specialty but don’t become too specialized,” she cautions. “New Century Careers offers interesting and versatile skills training that puts good steps in place for a career path, not just a job,” Sheila says. “The hands-on training components and smaller class size are plusses. And where else does the CEO walk by every day to engage with you!” she adds.
