One Museum Hosts Another!
Anyone visiting the Estrella Warbirds Museum on June 26th, was certain to be pleasantly surprised by the vast array of exotic vehicles filling the parking lots! Estrella Warbirds Museum had the distinct honor of hosting a tour for members of the famous Peterson Auto Museum, whom had just happened to arrive in their favorite touring vehicles.
You may ask, why is this of any significance? Keep on reading. The Petersen Automobile Museum is one of the largest automotive collections in the world and is located on Wilshire Blvd at the end of the "Miracle Mile" in LA. Visiting museum members were pleasantly surprised at the size and extent of both Estrella Warbirds Museum and the huge collection of vehicles in the Woodland Auto Display.
Betty Miller, Peter Snyder and Richard Woodland all took part in guiding and providing background information on the displays for the large visiting group. They did a fantastic job as did the cadre of museum docents on duty that day! Also, a very special thanks to Ken Neuman, Facility Rental Manager, for setting up the tour plus making all the advance arrangements for the wonderful catered luncheon enjoyed by all! You can view more pictures of the tour and some of their fantastic vehicles by clicking on the image above.

ƒrom Dr. Jill Thayer, Museum Curator: We are making great headway on the 25ft. cedar-lined closet in the Curatorial Archival Facility at Estrella Warbirds Museum. A BIG shout out to Ron Brooks, Board Member, Facilities Manager, and Donor; and Scott Stelzle, Chief Operations Officer, whom have been building the framework as it's coming together. Ron just completed three panels and finishing the fourth this week. It takes one day to install each section with the tongue and groove cedar planks.
The 2-tiered storage space will house our military uniforms that date back to WWI. After the closet, they will install the carpet and then the industrial shelving. Moving the archives and artifacts from the small space in Brooks Building to this new facility in Freedom Hall will be a feat, but we're up for the challenge. I am one grateful curator! You can find more photos on either our FaceBook page or our Instagram page.

New at The Woodland Auto Display
|
|
This past month has seen some changes (improvements) and several new vehicles on display at the Woodland Auto Museum. Estrella Warbirds Museum is forever grateful and honored to be home to the Woodland Auto Display. Many visitors come to the museum to check out the aviation displays and are surprised at the rapidly expanding automotive display. By the same token, those coming to visit the Woodland Auto Display are surprised to also find a great collection of military aircraft, military vehicles and related artifacts.
Not only does one find a fantastic selection of automotive racing history, but one by one the collection of historical motorcyles has been improving. Pictured above is a rather interesting 1915 Henderson Model D Motorcycle. At a whopping 54 cubic inch, four cylinder engine with a 2 speed gearbox, it was one of the largest and fastest motorcycles of its time. This particular bike is one of only two American made motorcycles to win the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Click on the image above to read more information on this bike.
One other improvement this past month, was moving the Woodland Auto Display to its own website, primarily to improve the speed and improve accessibility via web search engines. Yes, if you have previously saved links to its pages via ewarbirds.org, don't worry, they all still work. Now stay tuned to woodlandautodisplay.com. You should find it easier to navigate, plus there is a great index and we will be adding some digitized archive reference materials in the near future.
