July 2023

SUNSHINE.

As the summer sun shines bright, so does the warmth of your dedication and compassion! We hope this newsletter finds you in high spirits and brimming with enthusiasm for another fantastic month of making a positive impact.

As we reach the mid-year point, we can't help but marvel at the incredible journey we've had so far. Each one of you has played a crucial role in making this year truly impactful. Together, we've achieved remarkable milestones, and we're excited to share one of the heartwarming stories that has unfolded later in the newsletter.

Just as a single sunbeam can brighten a room, even the smallest acts of kindness can have a profound effect. Thank you for being the rays of sunshine in the lives of others. Your kindness, generosity, and dedication are what make this community truly shine. As we continue to embody the "Summer of Service: Embracing the Sunshine of Giving," let's keep spreading positivity and making a difference in the lives of those around us.

Wishing the rest of your summer be filled with warmth, joy, and meaningful connections.

  With gratitude,

We are updating Volunteer profiles in Assisted Rides to help ensure the best possible service for you and our Care Receivers. There is so much information that is helpful that we can add to your profile, especially relating to your availability, preferences, and vehicle information. This helps if a care receiver can’t find you or if they need a certain size vehicle. It is also beneficial for me to know when to reach out to you for open rides based on your availability. When you have a moment, please review your profile, and send me email at [email protected], stop in the office (we have ice cream 😊 or give me a call and we will get everything updated.) Your time, care and the miles you drive, positively impact our seniors more than you can imagine. I can’t thank you enough for all you do!

Empowering Seniors, Enriching Lives: A Story of True Inspiration

Our new tagline, "empowering seniors, enriching lives," is more than just a few words. It's a commitment we've wholeheartedly embraced, as exemplified by the heartwarming story of Edie, a dedicated volunteer at the Sparrow's Nest for 25 years. Her unwavering commitment and warm spirit have touched the lives of many in the community. However, after learning she could no longer drive, she was uncertain how she would continue something that meant so much to her.

At that moment, Edie feared she may have to bid farewell to her beloved volunteer job at the Sparrow's Nest. The thought of parting ways with something she cherished for so long was disheartening. But it's said that "sometimes, our paths are illuminated by the kindness of others." And indeed, that's what happened next after another volunteer from the Sparrow’s Nest shared with Edie that her husband was a volunteer with Senior Care Volunteer Network and encouraged her to reach out to us.

"Without SCVN, I could not continue to volunteer at the Sparrows Nest, " shared Edie. Enter Carol, one of our many incredible volunteers, whose heart is as vast as her willingness to help. Carol, along with several other volunteers moved by Edie's dedication and perseverance, stepped up to lend a hand. Through the dedication and commitment of our volunteers, Edie could continue her valuable service despite the transportation challenge. Her heart is filled with gratitude.

Through the kindness of our volunteers, Edie is empowered to stay connected with her passion for volunteering and remain a cherished member of the Sparrow's Nest family. It is through the simple yet profound gesture of offering rides, that our volunteers enrich the lives of others in ways that go far beyond transportation.

Edie's story is a shining example of how our tagline, "empowering seniors, enriching lives," isn't just rhetoric; it's a reality we're actively creating every day. Each one of you, our amazing volunteers, plays a crucial role in making stories like Edie's possible. Your dedication and compassion are what make our community special and vibrant.

As we move forward into the second half of the year, let us be inspired by Edie's story and remember that together, we can make a difference in the lives of those we serve.

"Volunteers are the rays of sunshine that brighten the lives of those they touch."
