Supply Chain Disruptions
We're all experiencing the ripple effects caused by the economic disruption of a global pandemic. Supply chain disruptions have made and continue to make waves.

MIT Management Sloan School News writer Sara Brown offers some tips to handle supply chain disruption.

Brown writes to keep an eye on your entire supply chain through supplier mapping. Know plant locations and what each plant makes in order to keep track of critical parts. Can your product work with out the part, or can you get the part elsewhere?

Implement product triage. Allocate parts used in multiple products according to need or customer importance.

Another suggestion is to increase the price of products in scarce supply and lower the price of readily available products.

Read more tips in Brown's article using the link below.

In another MIT article about Yossi Sheffi's new book, "The New (AB)normal: Reshaping Business and Supply Chain Strategy Beyond COVID-19", Sheffi describes three ways that businesses exhibited agility that allowed them to be successful.

  • Scale agility - When companies find ways to make more of existing products to meet surging demand.
  • Asset agility - used to unearth new uses for underutilized assets and provide products and services closely related to the preexisting business.
  • Scope agility - when firms pivot completely to build entirely new types of products.

Sheffi predicts that some trends will continue past the pandemic. Businesses will continue to adopt and improve on digital experience. Unused retail space will continue to be repurposed as fulfillment centers as e-commerce grows. And the focus will shift from self-reliance to connectedness .

Yossi Sheffi is quoted as saying, “Although COVID-19 may have exposed the fragile links lurking in the global economy, it also accelerated the adoption of a great many technologies and practices that will make the global economy more robust over time."

The thought of writing a business plan can sometimes be daunting. There is so much to cover and a ton of research that needs to take place. So where do you start?
Let us break it down into small manageable chunks before you write complete comprehensive thorough paragraphs. Wendy Klug, VBOC of the Dakotas Director, will lead attendees through a bubble chart approach and discuss simple research tricks that will help you lay the foundation for key categories of the business plan.
