Congratulations to José Membreno and Wilson DeLeon, who were recently chosen for a new Pepco scholarship program for Hispanic youth who aspire to be engineers. As Pepco scholars, they will each receive $5,000 a year in scholarship funds and will participate in internships each summer with engineers at Pepco.

Join Team LAYC for Marine Corps Marathon

Run with Team LAYC at this year's Marine Corps Marathon or MCM 10K races! By joining Team LAYC, you will raise funds and awareness for LAYC programs that help at-risk, vulnerable youth make a successful transition to adulthood.

Partner Spotlight: The National Park Service

NPS' mission is to "preserve the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations." LAYC's on-going partnership with NPS fits this criteria perfectly.

Volunteer Spotlight: Paul Gomero

Having recently emigrated from Peru, Paul was spending his time networking and volunteering as he looked for full-time employment. He saw our volunteer request on LAYC's website and offered his services. Since then, he's worked with the development team for more than two months and put in over 80 hours. His commitment to volunteerism and dedication to LAYC's mission shines through.

Staff Spotlight: Kynai Johnson

Kynai Johnson is Deputy Director for LAYC's Education & Workforce programs. She's been at LAYC for four years, is extremely dedicated to its mission, and is particularly focused on serving young people and communities of color. A tremendous asset to the organization, Kynai has exceptional analytical and organizational skills, which she uses to identify opportunities to improve program effectiveness. Kynai is smart and hardworking and never says no when a team member needs assistance.

Salsa Tour Welcomes New Supporters to LAYC

On Thursday, July 13th, LAYC hosted a "Salsa Tour," giving nearly 30 guests the chance to learn more about the our mission and programs in a casual/festive environment. Held at the main site at 1419 Columbia Road, NW, the event included dialogue with staff and young people about what's happening at LAYC, including our work with homeless and newly immigrated youth, and shared their inspiring stories.
