Meet Gio (Little) & Helder (Big)

Helder, a longtime volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass & Metrowest, decided to become a Big Brother after his wife reminded him of his goal to make a difference. Paired with Gio at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gio initially hesitated due to their age difference. However, they quickly discovered many shared interests, such as rating local pizza, visiting museums, and fishing.

Over the past four years, their bond has grown significantly. Gio now considers Helder part of his family. As Gio heads into his senior year at South High, Helder emphasizes the importance of having supportive relationships. Although Matches typically close when Littles become adults, neither Gio nor Helder plans to end their connection.

Supporting Our Littles Through Key Initiatives – The Voice of Business

On July 16th, 2024, our CEO, Connie Askin, appeared on The Voice of Business Radio Show by the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce. She discussed:

Our FAFSA Initiative: BBBS CMMW is tackling issues with the FAFSA application error that inflated family income calculations, reducing federal aid eligibility. We're helping our Littles navigate this challenge to secure the financial aid they need for college.

Rodman Ride for Kids: BBBS CMMW is participating in the Rodman Ride for Kids. Options include 25 or 50-mile bike rides and virtual activities. Connie Askin will be riding and invites everyone to join or support in their own way.

We appreciate your support in making a difference for our Littles.
