Honoring Independence, Celebrating 250 Years of the U.S. Army

As we gather this July to celebrate our nation’s independence, we also take a moment to honor a milestone that speaks directly to the heart of American service—the 250th birthday of the United States Army. On Saturday, June 14, 2025, Washington, D.C., came alive with the spirit of patriotism as our nation’s oldest military branch was celebrated grandly with a parade, festival, live music, and fireworks illuminating the night sky above our national capital.

It is only fitting that the celebration was held in Washington, D.C.—home to many symbols of freedom, sacrifice, and strength. From the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery, where generations of Army soldiers rest in eternal honor, to the stirring sight of the George Washington statue standing proudly near the National Mall, the city is steeped in the legacy of those who have worn the Army uniform.

For 250 years, the U.S. Army has stood as a pillar of American freedom, defending our nation through revolution, world wars, humanitarian crises, and everything in between. Its soldiers have marched through history, not just with rifles and rucksacks, but with courage, integrity, and a commitment to a cause greater than themselves. From Valley Forge to Kandahar, their footsteps trace the story of America’s resilience.

At Fisher House Kansas City, we are honored to serve the families of these heroes. Our mission is made possible by the selfless devotion of those who’ve served—and the families who’ve stood beside them every step of the way. As we raise our flags this Fourth of July, we also raise our hearts in gratitude to the men and women of the United States Army—past and present—for 250 years of unwavering dedication.

This Independence Day, may we remember that freedom is never free, and may we recommit ourselves to supporting those who preserve it.
