Dog friendly??

Most country cafes are receptive to customers with dogs. In the new BOP book we have noted those venues that are. Of course, this means that dogs are welcome to sit outside with you, but they must still be on a lead at all times. Don't assume that all country cafes will accommodate your dog - some environments are not at all suitable.

Volvo S60

With all the places I have to go, driving this stylish vehicle and knowing that it is one of the safest cars on the road, is a pleasure and a relief.

Ebbetts have vehicle showrooms in Hamilton, Tauranga, Pukekohe, Taupo and now Wellington.

Pop into any one of these to test drive your next vehicle.

 Julie's July Update
Well, you may have noticed that I missed the June newsletter altogether! It's been such a busy couple of months with the launching of the BOP book on the 31st May.

This new book is now in place at selected book shops and of course the cafes profiled in the book. There are 38 cafes from Whakatane district to Waihi Beach/Karangahake Gorge and down through the Rotorua lake districts to Taupo and beyond.

I think there are some really super spots in the BOP book and because so much of this area is popular for holidaying in, the book should be a must-have not only for BOP locals but for those who live outside the area and have a beach house or lake house that they go to.

A number of cafes take advantage of the winter season to renovate or make substantial renovations to their premises. Two that I know of who are extending their indoor/outdoor dining are The Firepot Cafe in Gordonton and The Boatshed Cafe in Karapiro.

The weather may be cooler - but it is still a pleasure to go for a drive in the country. Many country cafes have a wood burner or open gas fire to provide a warm and cosy atmosphere for you. So don't be put off by the winter weather!
Winter Escapes

Sometimes, when we have a run of this wet weather, we get a bit of cabin-fever don't we? And everyone in the house gets a bit scratchy with each other.  Here are a few recommendations for families - to take a drive somewhere the kids can have a run around (even with coats and gumboots on!) - and combine it with a hot coffee for the adults.

1) The Little Clydesdale Cafe, Pirongia

2) Annies Cafe, Kawhia

3) Waikino Station Cafe, Karangahake Gorge

4) Top Gear Equestrian Cafe, Taupo region

5) Katikati Bird Gardens

Each one of these has SPACE for the little ones to have a walk, go on a playground, pat some animals or even take a ride on a train. Of course, there are many more places to go to - most country cafes have space to walk and play - you will find your own favourites.

Mid winter Christmas parties

What a great excuse to have a party! Vilagrads Winery in the Waikato have one more Saturday for their July Christmas Party - 16th July.  Find out more here and book a table.

Or, phone your favourite country cafe and see if they also have a mid-year Christmas menu. This is a great idea for a birthday or anniversary - or just a good excuse to get friends together for a great night out!
