The City of Greater Sudbury - News and Updates

In this month's edition: A greener way to travel, summer events and our paint reuse program.

A Message From the Mayor

Summer festival season has arrived!

Whether it is through music, food and drink, or new cultural encounters, the bustling summer festival scene in Greater Sudbury provides residents and visitors with an opportunity to travel around the world… all without leaving our city.

Outdoor concerts bring the best of Canadian and international artists to stages across the city. Northern Lights Festival Boreal is Canada’s longest continually running outdoor music festival and returns to Bell Park for its 51st year this month. Many Greater Sudbury communities host their own festivals, events, and summer carnivals that highlight their unique character, while Up Here is an ode to all of “weird and wonderful” Sudbury.

Some festivals that celebrate national heritage, language, or regional cultural groups – like the Italian Festival or Greek Festival – have been around for decades, while others, like the Japan Festival, are newer to our city. These festivals (and more!) are welcoming and inclusive events that highlight the multicultural diversity of Greater Sudbury residents, showcasing culinary delights and immersive cultural experiences.

And you don’t even need a plane ticket.

Mayor Paul Lefebvre

Smart Commute - The Greener Way to Travel!

www.smartcommute.ca

Smart Commute is a mobile and web application that changes the way we think about transportation. In line with the City’s commitment to climate change action and innovative active travel, the program provides tools and resources that support and incentivize cycling, walking, carpooling and transit travel as easy and convenient ways to get around.

AED Loaner Program

Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone at any time, and it is important to be prepared. Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services now has five public access Automated External Defibrillator (AED) units that can be requested on a first-come, first-served basis for events within the City of Greater Sudbury boundaries.

Make Use of our Paint Reuse Program

Paint Reuse Program

Did you know paint collected at the Household Hazardous Waste Depot that still appears to be in usable condition is available free of charge through the City’s Paint Reuse Program, which helps put paint where it belongs – on buildings, walls, and fences?
