Memorial MAP Newsletter
October 2019
STAY TUNED.... more info to come!
Dear MAP Families,

What an exciting time of year it is for the children (and you too!). New schedules, teachers, friends, etc… We hope that your transition into MAP is going well and that everyone is settling in to the new routine!

MAP is a busy place, especially at drop off & pick up times! If you have any questions or concerns and want to talk to me or a teacher to get some feedback, we would be happy to make some time to talk. Call or email anytime (508) 359-2165 m [email protected] .

Please be sure to let MAP know about absences, special pick-ups, or any changes
to your child’s MAP schedule. The School Dismissal Manager is intended for school use only - while we can see if your child has a change of plans, it does not give us enough information to rely on. We will need a phone call, note, or email letting us know so we will not be looking for them at dismissal time . Don't forget to program MAP’s number into your cell phone (508) 359-2165.

E-mailing me is another great way to keep MAP informed. If you choose e-mail, please know that I will always e-mail you back promptly . However if you don’t get a reply and it is a time sensitive issue (absence, special pick up, etc…), please always follow up with a call to the program, as I am not always at my desk or in the office.

Remember that the MAP website is a great resource - our Family Handbook, Calendar, Newsletters, and a lot of other great information can be found there. We also send out much or our communication via e-mail. If you have not received e-mails from MAP before, please e-mail me at [email protected] or Annette Gallagher, our Executive Director at [email protected] and we will add you to the list.

For billing questions, please call or e-mail Gaye at the
Main Office (508) 359-0003 or e-mail [email protected] .

Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter!

Sincerely,
Meghan

September was a great month to kick off our school year. The kids have settled in nicely getting to know their teachers, making new friends, and enjoying the MAP room. The first few weeks were filled with fun and creative activities such as:

  • Learning places around town
  • Making Family trees
  • building with cups and lights
  • building with recycle art
  • making shape robots
  • CD spinners
  • Shaving cream painting
  • Fluffy slime
  • Fizzy cloud dough
  • Acrylic pour painting
  • pumpkin observations
  • Leaf art
  • marshmallow and toothpick sculptures

*October Secret Mission*
Each month we try to add a challenge to the newsletter to see who is reading....
If you have made it this far, please send Meghan a cute Halloween photo from when your MAPster was younger!
Afternoons at MAP Kindergarten & First Grade
September brought old and new friends together. The new members of the MAP program are quickly learning the routine with the help of our experienced first graders. Thank you first graders for being exceptional role models!

Afternoons are filled with fun, laughter and learning. Whether they are running and playing outdoors, sharing their creativity with daily projects, taking part in gym games, or enjoying time in the MAP room, the children are busy putting their creative minds to work! The addition of clubs made the children happy. With an incredible variety of clubs to choose from the hope is that there is something for everyone.

Some creative activities this month at MAP are:
  • playdough
  • CD spinners
  • French scavenger hunt
  • Decorations for the Memorial Cafeteria
  • Football players
  • Pigeon from the books by Mo Willems
  • Lego bridges
  • Sculpy
  • Fuse beads

MAP welcomes the donation of paper that is blank on one side, paper tubes, and small boxes for creating. We’re looking forward to many more fun afternoons spent with your children.
Session 1 Clubs Have Begun!
We’ve started our first round of afternoon clubs! Clubs run each afternoon from 4 to 4:45/5, for about 6 weeks. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Here is what we’re up to so far:

Mondays
Halloween Club with Jodi  - Do you love Halloween as much as I do? Then join me in Halloween club! We will spend Mondays getting ready to celebrate the big day! We will be making some Halloween decorations, playing some Halloween themed games, and having fun with all things spooky! What's a ghosts favorite fruit?? (Booberries!)
Building Club with Kim -  If you like to build, then this is the club for you! We will become engineers and test out our creations to see what works and what doesn't. We will build bridges out of straws, test different kinds of paper airplanes, make a rocket with a balloon and so much more!

Tuesdays
Colorific Club with Joanne -  Let’s get creative with all the colors of the rainbow! In Colorific Club we will work with markers, sharpies, paints and more! Let’s see where our imaginations take us as we work on amazing art projects. Join Joanne in the Art room on Tuesdays for Colorific fun!
Space Club with Mike -  Our astronauts will be blasting off to outer space for some exploration, games, and maybe even a little accidental learning! Astronaut training will be included free of charge!

Wednesdays
Fall Sports Club with Scott -    Fall Sports Club is here and we are getting ready for a weekly adventure into the world of sports. We are going to play some sports that you might know very well, some Olympic sports that you might not know, and even some sports that are new to you. Sportsmanship will be a focus and we will practice it each week because we all know this is a tough concept for many to learn, even professional athletes. We will learn the rules of the major sports and the some safety reasons for those rules. I am looking to hear from you on what sports are YOUR favorites and why. I hope to have each student create their own professional sport profile to make their own (Rookie) trading card. We will talk details in club and I can't wait for these next few weeks!!
Camping Club with Megan S. -  Hi-Ho Hi-Ho it's off to camp we go! Come join me in some camping fun. We'll learn some fun camp songs, go on nature walks, have our very own dramatic play camp area and best of all make some yummy s’mores!

Thursdays
HEY! What's in the Shed? Club with Nancy  - "Hey, what's in the shed?!?!" The children LOVE any opportunity to "help" teachers get toys and games from the shed...Their curiosity about what is in there is pretty high!!  So, we decided to have a club that centers around satisfying this playful curiosity. There's sure to be lots of fun games and activities to be enjoyed by all!!
Fun with Fall Club with Trish  - Fall is such a wonderful time of the year for amazing art projects, nature walks & to investigate all things Fall!! Come have some Fun!!

Fridays
Show & Tell Club with Kathy -  Come join Show and Tell Club! Each week you will have the opportunity to share something about yourself! We will have a different theme each week with a project or activity to go with it!
The Very Hungry MAP Children & Afternoon Snacks:
We have found that even after having afternoon snack, the children are coming to us later in the day and letting us know that they are HUNGRY.  So we have been allowing them to go into their backpacks & lunchboxes for leftovers. If this sounds like your child, you are welcome to pack them a healthy little something extra to have as a late afternoon snack at MAP. Thank you!

SPARE CLOTHES
Please remember to send in a spare set of clothes for your child to keep in his or her backpack. It will help them to feel more comfortable if they have a spill/accident and can put on their own clothes. MAP has a small supply on hand for “just in case” as well. Thank you!
