Catching the Trends
Limoneira Company is a leading 129-year-old international agribusiness producing lemons, avocados, oranges, specialty citrus and other crops that are enjoyed throughout the world.

Headquartered in Santa Paula, California, Limoneira has grown to become one of the premier integrated agribusinesses in the world with 15,400 acres of rich agricultural lands, real estate properties, and water rights in California, Arizona, Chile and Argentina.

Recently Harold Edwards, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, announced a new strategic plan to investors and shareholders of how the Limoneira Company will focus on a grower partner model to combat the impact of “pricing volatility and farming costs”, and will sell some global assets.

Edwards said, “We believe that this new strategic plan will result in an Asset Lighter business model, dramatic debt reduction, reduced volatility and an increase in EBITDA and earnings per share, higher return on invested capital, increase in our quarterly dividend, higher ESG scores, expansion of global fruit packaged and marketed by Limoneira, and lastly, an increase in the growing, packing, marketing and selling of avocados.”

He went on to say that the avocado segment continued to outperform expectations which led to continued strong profitability for the third quarter of fiscal year 2022. For more information read the full press release here
Water: Our Sustainability News
Windfall Lake
This is what we call a win / win program! Water continues to be at the top of everyone’s minds, and we are excited to report a new program that will increase Limoneira’s water savings, minimize freshwater shortages to residents in Arizona and the Lower Basin, and will help to further our sustainability initiatives while also creating more value for the company.

Limoneira’s new program is with the Yuma Mesa Irrigation and Drainage District (YMIDD) for a two-year fallowing and forbearance program. The program will target approximately 400 acres of farmable land throughout the duration of the agreement, resulting in more than 1.3 billion gallons—annually – of saved water that may be retained in Lake Mead as Colorado River System Conservation Water. The Lower Colorado River Basin is currently in a declared shortage, with reduced allocations being enforced in Arizona. Limoneira is looking forward to contributing to this important effort!
Stars and ... Lemons!
You’ll feel festive this Fourth with either (or both!) of these two star-shaped delicious, refreshing, and sweet Limoneira desserts! See how beautiful these Lemon Cake Stars and Lemon & Cream Berry Stars are, and how easy they are to make!

First, these Lemon Cake Stars use healthy ingredients that are super easy to whisk up! From the kitchen of Megan Roosevelt, aka The Healthy Grocery Girl, you’ll see how simple, natural ingredients add to this healthier cake! And Limoneira classic lemons give it the perfect amount of tang – and zest – that add to this mouth-watering 4th of July dessert.
But wait, there’s more! Try the Lemon & Cream Berry Stars – so light and airy, and with a pop of flavor due to the Limoneira lemon-infused Greek yogurt. Paired with berries and topped on toasted phyllo dough stars, you’ll love how easy, red, blue, and creamy this little dessert is!

Pretty in Pink
At the Foodservice Conference
Later this month, Limoneira will be spotlighting its extraordinary Pink lemons at The Foodservice Conference in Monterey, CA from July 28-29. If you’ve never seen these pink lemons, you are missing out! They are the perfect demonstration of how Mother Earth itself can create a distinctly new variety. The outer appearance ranges from rose blush to more yellow with stripes with the gorgeous interior of the fruit ranging from a pale pink to a darker pink color. How cool is that?! Similar to a classic lemon, they are sour, yet they have a hint of grapefruit with slightly less acidity. The Pink lemons are so unique and will brighten and enhance beverages as well as your meals, so be sure to stop by Limoneira’s booth, #213, to experience something so exciting. And pretty in pink!

What in the World
In honor of this holiday, here are some amazing flag facts about the Star-Spangled Banner, and the first one ever is pictured here!

The original Star-Spangled Banner, the flag that inspired Francis Scott Key to write the song that would become our national anthem, has a history of its own and is among the most treasured artifacts in the collections of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.

Did you know that our flag was…

  • Made in Baltimore, Maryland, in July-August 1813 by flagmaker Mary Pickersgill
  • Commissioned by Major George Armistead, commander of Fort McHenry
  • Original size: 30 feet by 42 feet
  • Current size: 30 feet by 34 feet
  • Fifteen stars and fifteen stripes (one star has been cut out)
  • Raised over Fort McHenry on the morning of September 14, 1814, to signal American victory over the British in the Battle of Baltimore; the sight inspired Francis Scott Key to write “The Star-Spangled Banner”
  • Preserved by the Armistead family as a memento of the battle
  • First loaned to the Smithsonian Institution in 1907; converted to permanent gift in 1912
  • On exhibit at the National Museum of American History since 1964
  • Major, multi-year conservation effort launched in 1998
