Iowa 4-H Beats Nebraska 4-H

We won! The Iowa 4-H Foundatiom was challenged by the Nebraska 4-H Foundation. The challenge started June 3 and Iowa quickly won the challenge the next day. The challenge was to see which foundation could receive 500 new likes first on their Facebook page. At 10 am June 4 the Iowa 4-H Foundation officially had surpassed the benchmark in likes thanks to you and your many Facebook friends. Kevin Hauser, a Iowa 4-H alum, was randomly selected as our "Like-Off Challenge Fan Winner" and will receive four gate tickets from both the Iowa State Fair and the Nebraska State Fair. Both foundations will be putting together a "VIP Package" to each fair for Hauser. Thank you to all you participated in the challenge! Head to our Facebook page to receive updates about the Iowa 4-H Foundation. >>

Funding Opportunities for Iowa's Youth
Kris's Korner

One of the greatest parts of my job is that I have the sincere pleasure of meeting brand new State 4-H Council members as they are becoming oriented and acclimated to their new, significant role in youth leadership for the State of Iowa. Forty of the brightest, most ambitious and highly motivated young people take on their capacity to direct 4-H programming from a youth perspective, and particularly to plan and execute your annual State 4-H Conference. A highlight for me is getting to not only meet them as individual 4-H'ers at the beginning of their leadership journey, but also watching them grow throughout their year of 4-H leadership experience.
$61,500 in Scholarships Awarded to Iowa's 4-H Youth
The Iowa 4-H Foundation awarded 77 scholarships valued at $61,500 on Sunday, June 9 at the Iowa 4-H Foundation Scholarship Recognition Event. In the 31 years the foundation has awarded scholarships, the event for the first time ever was held in Ames in the WOW Center of the Extension 4-H Youth Building on Iowa State University's campus. The more intimate location allowed scholarship recipients to mingle with scholarship donors and Iowa 4-H Foundation Trustees.

130 scholarship recipients, family members, and donors attended the event and enjoyed refreshments  after the official ceremony. "It was nice to meet the donor for the scholarship and see other scholarship recipients. It was nice to celebrate with our daughter's culmination of 4-H success," said the mother of one scholarship recipient. Check back in November for our the 2014 Scholarship Application!

Iowa Soybean Association teams with Foundation: First Golf Benefit a 'Hole in One'

For the first time in the "Going for the Green" Golf Benefits' history, the Iowa Soybean Association has become the presenting sponsor of all three golf events. The first of these golf tournaments was last Friday, June 21 at the Emerald Hills Golf Club near Arnolds Park. The Northwest "Going for the Green" Annual 4-H Golf Benefit presented by Iowa Soybean Association was a huge success, raising over $54,000 for Iowa 4-H youth.

144 golfers enjoy the fantastically planned benefit by the Northwest Iowa 4-H Golf Benefit Committee on a sunny and windy day. Two golf teams each from American State Bank, Northwest Bank/First National Bank, DuPont Pioneer, Syngenta, our Northwest Benefit sponsors, made sure all golfers soaked in the beauty of the Iowa Lakes region. All Golfers enjoyed meals provided by RENZE-Eric Nelson Seed, Producers Livestock, First Cooperative Association-Cherokee, DEKALB FCA-Matt Otto Seed, and Farmers Trust & Savings Bank-Spencer. Photos of the event can be found on our Facebook page.

Sounds like fun and don't want to miss out? No worries, two more golf benefits remain for the 2013 golf season! Limited spots are available, so be sure to register your team today for the Central and Eastern Golf Tournaments.
