As June arrives with warmer weather, open pools, and summer around the corner, we also welcome a new Mayor, a new Town Council Member, America 250 banners and celebrations, and more.
New Mayor and Council Member
At its May 12 meeting, the Town Council appointed Rae Nelson as our new Mayor. Rae was elected to the Town Council in 2023. The Council also appointed Carson Jernigan as a new Council Member. Both Nelson and Jernigan will serve the remainder of current terms through the fall 2027 election. Carson will be sworn in to office at the June 9 Council Meeting. 250-Year Events
Mark your calendars for two exciting celebrations of our nation's 250th anniversary:
>> Patriotic Paws Walk
Date: Saturday, June 13
Time: 9:00 a.m. - Noon
Join us for the Patriotic Paws Walk along the Blue Heron Trail! This promises to be an unforgettable event featuring a Color Guard presentation by the Davie County Sheriff’s Department, a community singing of the Star-Spangled Banner, free U.S. flags and commemorative t-shirts, treats for pups and their bipeds, and more. Proudly presented by Hillsdale Real Estate Group, Chick-fil-A, Sam’s Ice Cream, Vista Realty, Meg Brown Home Furnishings, Steelman’s ACE Hardware, and the Town of Bermuda Run. You won’t want to miss it!

Date: Sunday, July 26
Time: 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Location: Town Green
The Town of Bermuda Run invites your family to a spectacular 250th Birthday Party for America! Bring your lawn chairs and get ready to dance to the energetic, crowd-pleasing sounds of the Alek Ottaway Band while enjoying free hot dogs, hamburgers, patriotic slushies, and other treats and surprises.
Drones as First Responders
“It’s literally the future of our support,” said Sheriff JD Hartman at the May Town Council meeting, describing a year-long initiative that positions drones to respond to calls up to 3.3 times faster than an officer can physically arrive on scene. An overview of early childhood programs and the growing need for childcare programs that impact families, workforce participation, and economic development.

As we celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary, hear the inspiring story of how the Center helps transform the often-challenging transition for veterans to civilian life into a journey of hope, purpose, and community connection.
