Who Shot the Swimmers: A History of Swimming Through the Photographic Lens
Without cameras and the photographers who have used them, the history of our sports would be nothing but printed words and fading memories. It is through the miracle of photography that the heroes and great moments of the past and present- from 100 years ago to the next 100 years- will live on. It is through photographer's eye that we can see and appreciate swimming as it was - and as it is. It is through their photographs that we can follow the physical development of swimmers, swimming costumes, pools, strokes, equipment as well as advances in the equipment and art of photography.
Featuring the works of the most famous photographers from the late nineteenth century to the present, capturing the great moments in aquatic and photographic history.

FORT LAUDERDALE - The International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF), recognized by FINA, the international governing body for the Olympic aquatic sports as its official Hall of Fame, is proud to announce that Laurie Lawrence, a legendary swimming coach, entrepreneur, internationally renowned water safety advocate, will receive the organization's Gold Medallion Award at ceremonies to be held in Fort Lauderdale, August 25-27, 2017.

L: Penny Taylor, 1948 Olympian, donated memorabilia from the 1948 Olympic Games and the 1951 Pan Pacific Games. You can find her 1948 swim suit on display at the ISHOF museum.
Penny received the 2012 Paragon Award for Competitive Swimming.

Conference on Near-Death Experiences While Drowning",
on Friday, August 18th
, 2017. This conference aims to bring attention to near-death experiences during a drowning episode, a very important issue largely neglected by most aquatic safety professionals.

Dear Friends of the Swimming Hall of Fame,
As you may have heard, I have made the difficult, yet easy decision to step down as ISHOF's CEO. Difficult, because I really love ISHOF. Easy, because I still have other things I want to do with my life - like spend more time with my children and grandchildren. And, because I believe it is time to find a new CEO who has both a passion for the history of aquatics and the ability to secure the financial support necessary to turn ISHOF into the "powerhouse museum" our museum consultants believe it can be and deserves to be.
For ISHOF is more than a repository of athletic achievement in the water.
It is a museum that chronicles the important role that swimming has played in human history as a military art, as a prerequisite for work and recreation through the ages,
as a catalyst for women's rights, civil rights
and as an essential lifeskill that should be universally practiced by everyone,
young and old, able bodied and infirm. It is also a museum that makes every visitor who is a swimmer proud that they are one.
It is my hope that we find a new CEO who will be able to garner your support and that of the entire aquatic community to make ISHOF one of the world' great museums.
It has truly been an honor to serve and I thank ISHOF's Board and members for allowing me the privilege.

Osvaldo Codaro (ARG)
2017 ISHOF Pioneer
Just two months shy of his induction into the ISHOF, Osvaldo Codaro "
Pacha" passed away on June 6th from complications from a fall he had at home in Buenos Aires.
He was able to recover from the physical fall enough to visit his beloved Rio de Janeiro, where
complications arose.
He passed away peacefully with his wife Tota and children Cris, Rosana, Mariela and Alex by his side.

Make a Splash
Last month, the "Make a Splash" Tour came to Fort Lauderdale. Rowdy Gaines, Cullen Jones and Debbie Hesse talked about the importance of swimming as a life saving skill and presented the City of Fort Lauderdale with a check in the amount of $1500 to contribute to future swim lessons.
