Dear Falls Church Family,
The extensive and lengthening impact of COVID-19 upon our lives weighs heavily. We not only feel its effect personally, but in our nation when combined with the injustices of racism we face in profound and blatant ways. I need God’s strong and loving presence in Christ to be with me and work through me as I discern and pray how I turn from demonstration and protest to viable actions that make a difference.
This is a time in my life, and our life as God’s people, I believe we need the Eucharist more than ever. But health and “love of neighbor” guidelines direct us to continue our fast from the Eucharist. Certainly, we receive God’s presence in Christ in our regular worship service of the Word during Morning Prayer. However, I long for the breadth and depth of the hope-filled prayers and actions of the Eucharist that are not only shrouded in mystery, but encased in words of thanksgiving, oblation (offering), and of receiving a certain and undeniable grace as pure gift from God. We have not heard these words nor participated in these actions since early March. As your Rector, I believe it is time we pray these words and actions.

The Rector Search Committee Wants Your Input.
While the survey
(
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TFCErectorsearch
)
is still open, the next step in the information gathering phase of our search is underway. We have been meeting with targeted focus groups via Zoom, and the conversations have been fruitful, rejuvenating, and enormously helpful. We hope you will join us in these online conversations. There are still openings for several targeted groups: Evergreens, Sunday School teachers, and choir. But we now also have four opportunities
open to anyone
in the congregation.
If you would like to join a group to discuss questions not specifically covered on the survey, and to share your thoughts in fellowship with others, please use this link to the
signup genius
.
Please select the ONE group that best fits your schedule, and we look forward to seeing you online.

During these difficult times, it's uplifting to hear stories about parishioners taking action to improve the lives of people in this community, this nation, and the world. Every week, we'd like to highlight these stories in a new section entitled "Stories of Hope."

This week’s Story of Hope comes from our very own parishioner, Bob McCan, who is busy writing a book that studies the vision and approach needed in our society to fulfill the prayer of Jesus, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done
on
earth as it is in heaven.” Click

Bailey's Crossroads Dinner Ministry
The Bailey's Crossroads Dinner Ministry will provide a meal for our homeless neighbors at the Bailey's Crossroads Community Shelter this Sunday at 4pm. Since April, we have partnered with Spin Pollo, a Peruvian chicken restaurant at 6672 Arlington Blvd. in Falls Church, to provide the monthly meal through takeout. This not only protects our volunteers but also helps the shelter serve the meal more easily while they are short-staffed. Spin Pollo owner Germán Andrade has been sharing the costs to make the meal affordable for the church, although offerings with this ministry in mind are greatly appreciated, as the monthly cost is roughly 50% higher than usual. Church members can also help support Spin Pollo by ordering takeout themselves. The chicken is delicious, and they offer curbside service.
Another way to help is to make sandwiches or bag lunches for drop-off at the Bailey's Crossroads shelter or New Hope Housing's Eleanor Kennedy Shelter near Fort Belvoir. Please see the
attached flyer
and contact Sami Smyth at 703-799-2293 x11 or
ssmyth@newhopehousing.org
for more information.

No-Contact Food Drive – June 20
th
Local food pantries are having a hard time gathering canned goods during this time when there are so many in need. On June 20
th
, The Falls Church will hold a no-contact food drive to help stock the pantry at
FCS
. More details to come so please purchase extra canned food when you can.
Our ministry partners at FCS have seen a significant increase in their requests for grocery drop-offs at people’s homes. They are looking for drivers to pick-up groceries from their foodbank and no-contact drop them off at people’s doors. If you are interested, please email
fcswecare@aol.com

The Little Free Food Pantry
On Fairfax Street near the church’s Thrift Shop is a small “take some food, leave some food” pantry (like the “little libraries” where people can take or leave a book). We are definitely seeing people use that pantry to supplement their groceries, and you can drop off non-perishable food items there at any time.
