New Member Welcome Meeting / Cars & Coffee

Saturday June 18 at the South Burlington Double Tree Hotel

Our June New Member meeting is coming up June 18. This event is open to all GMR members and will include a breakfast buffet, a dedicated parking area for our own "cars and coffee" as well as a welcome to our 28 new members! There's also of course, the opportunity to renew exiting friendships. The cost for this event is $25/person. Registration is open through Monday, June 14.

Greetings!

A Message from the GMR President

Have you ever wondered how many PCA members make up the Green Mountain Region? You might be surprised to learn that, as of June 1 we have 210 Primary members, 130 Co-Members and 6 Junior members. Considering that there are an estimated 600 Porsches registered in Vermont we are not doing too bad with our 33% take up rate. Our members hail from all corners of Vermont with the largest concentrations in the greater Burlington and central Vermont areas. We also have a members who reside in New Hampshire, Connecticut, California, Massachusetts, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ontario and Quebec. As for member vehicles our cohort includes model years from 1954 to 2022 with just about every Porsche model except for the Taycan covered.

In the grand scheme of things we are are among the smaller PCA regions but we do try to have fun especially during the summer driving season. With that in mind the Board has scheduled the 2022 New Member Welcome meeting for June 18 at the South Burlington DoubleTree Hotel. Despite the title this is open to all GMR members and will include a breakfast buffet, a dedicated parking area for our own “cars & coffee”, a welcome to the 28 new members who have joined since June 2021 and the opportunity to renew existing friendships. The cost for this event is $25/person.

To register, please go to msreg.com/GMRNewMemberMtg.

Looking further in the summer you might want to save some dates for other GMR events. For updated information please check the GMR website [https://gmtpca.org] and Mountaineer newsletter.

  • The Vermont Automobile Enthusiasts (VAE) Cars & Coffee Porsche Day. This will take place on Saturday, July 16 at the University Mall in South Burlington and will showcase Porsche vehicles. Yes, this is an early start (7.00am to 9.00am) but Brad Kennison, our Membership Chair, is putting together a tour that will take place after the Cars & Coffee event, he is planning to end the tour at a convenient location to facilitate the ride home whether you are heading north or south on I-89.
  • The GMR Potluck BBQ is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 20. The details will soon to be finalized and will offer members a great venue on Lake Champlain.
  • The GMR Annual Meeting and luncheon will once again be held at the Sugarbush Resort on Saturday, October 15. The 2022 business meeting is an important one as we will hold the election of officers in addition to other business. Ann Pettyjohn and Lou Krieg are planning a driving tour to Sugarbush from the Burlington area and we hope to have a similar tour from south central Vermont. Details and meeting information will be available closer in early September.
  • November/December - the Board would very much like to have an in-person holiday gathering this year. These events don’t spring up on their own so if you are interested in assisting with the planning, etc. please let me know. You can reach me at gmrpca@gmail.com

GMR COVID Precautions

Since the onset of the COVID pandemic the Green Mountain Region has managed to host several in-person events without any participants testing positive for COVID. This despite a membership that skews towards the more susceptible population that is at higher risk for infection.

Unfortunately, the streak came to an end immediately after our May 14 tour and lunch event with six members testing positive. The GMR Board is concerned about the health and welfare of members participating in our events and intends to take the necessary steps to minimize a future outbreak. To that end the Board strongly recommends that GMR event participants take prudent measures to mitigate the spread of COVID. For example …

Being fully vaccinated and boosted provides the most protection against COVID as well as addressing the effects from an infection.

On the day of the event
  • If you have any COVID symptoms, the flu, or other contagious illness - PLEASE STAY HOME. If you need to cancel because of illness the club will refund your event fees. We will miss you but staying home will protect your fellow members especially those who may be immunocompromised and at risk of serious illness.
  • Consider self-testing before you leave for the event. Test kits are generally available locally and on-line. For more information, you can access the Vermont Department of Health’s COVID website at https://www.healthvermont.gov/covid-19. If you test positive for COVID - contact your health care provider and STAY HOME. As above if you need to cancel the club will refund your event fees.
  • Consider wearing a mask especially during indoor activities. Examples of high-quality masks are N95 or KN95 masks, which are very good at blocking droplets. You can also wear a well-fitting mask with at least two layers of tightly woven fabric or layer a disposable mask under a cloth mask to increase effectiveness.
  • Exercise appropriate social distancing.

The Board recognizes that taking these measures are not an absolute guarantee that you will not spread or contract COVID but they will go a long way towards protecting our members. Thank you for your consideration.

Name Tags: We recommend that new members and their spouses or partners purchase "official" Green Mountain Club name tags for use at all GMR events. Please email gmrpca@gmail.com to request them for you and your spouse or partner, and our treasurer, Christina McCaffrey, will try to get them for you in time for the next event. The cost is $20.00 per name tag.

Want your spouse or partner to get these
Green Mountain PCA Newsletters?

When you joined PCA (recently or forever ago) you no doubt listed your partner or spouse as a co-member. Many co-members however have not provided their email addresses. If your spouse/partner would like to receive the Mountaineer as well as yourself, have them call PCA HQ at (410) 381-0911‬ and give PCA the information. It only takes a few minutes as PCA is very efficient. That way you both will receive The Mountaineer and other pertinent club emails.

If your co-member remembers his or her co-member login (it is separate from the main member) you can do it that way too-- but calling is probably the quickest.
Member Feature:
Send us your photos!

We have started a feature highlighting a different member in the GMR Mountaineer with his or her Porsche. If you would like to be featured in future newsletter please submit some photos of you and your car along with a paragraph or two explaining why you joined the GMR, your favorite drives or whatever!

Please reply to this email with your photo and information.
