Welcome ABCCM Crisis Ministry

Next week St. Mark's will host the operations of ABCCM's crisis ministry while their facility on Cumberland Ave gets a major face lift, courtesy of Home Depot who is bringing in 300 volunteers and over $500,000 in materials to make the facility shine! ABCCM volunteers and staff will serve clients out of St. Mark's fellowship hall June 23-27. We're glad to partner with ABCCM to meet the needs of our community!

How will this impact the day to day at St. Mark's?

  • The Fellowship Hall and Adult Classroom will be in use for the duration of their stay
  • There will be refrigerated trucks and employee vehicles in the parking lot.
  • Monday AA Meeting will be meeting in the Sanctuary from 10am-12pm
  • Tuesday Quilting will be cancelled
  • Wednesday Property day will continue as planned
  • Wednesday and Friday evening NA will meet as scheduled

How can you help?

  • Direct visitors to the Fellowship Hall doors if they are looking for ABCCM.
  • If you see someone lost, walk them to their location.
  • Do NOT unlock the Welcome Center doors or let people in who are not with St. Mark's. ABCCM visitors must use the Fellowship Hall doors - similar to visitors when we host an election on property

Other ABCCM Needs

The CAT Team collects needed items for the ABCCM Shelter. Currently they are in need of men’s clothing - particularly demin, socks, underwear, and belts. If you can donate, please place the donated items in the brown bins outside of the kitchen. Questions - contact Sharon Godfrey or Dan Dudde

Bread for the World Offering of Letters Report

Thanks very much to all who wrote letters to our members of Congress for the Bread for the World Offering of Letters, encouraging them to support continued funding for WIC, SNAP, and global nutrition programs. Russ and I delivered a total of 84, mostly handwritten, letters to Senator Budd’s, Senator Tillis’s, and Representative Edwards’ offices on Capitol Hill last week. We met with staff from their offices and presented a strong rationale for supporting these life-saving programs. We learned that, even though our efforts may not change minds today, the work to build long-term relationships with our elected officials often does lead to good outcomes in the long run. Please continue to stay in touch with these officials to voice your concerns. It’s our faith in action.

Noisy Bucket Sunday - Sunday June 29th during worship

Our next Noisy Bucket Sunday will be June 29. Recommendations from members of the St. Mark’s Christian Action Team were used to select this month’s recipient. Your gifts from June’s Noisy Bucket will be donated to Swannanoa Communities Together (SCT).

SCT was born out of the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. During the disaster, neighbors in the Swannanoa area came together across differences to support, feed and shelter others in the community. Building on that experience, SCT seeks to continue to strengthen the community, while advocating and organizing for Swannanoa’s future. SCT provides rental assistance, eviction prevention, and rental tracking services.
