During these difficult times, it's uplifting to hear stories about parishioners taking action to improve the lives of people in this community, this nation, and the world. Every week, we'd like to highlight these stories in a new section entitled "Stories of Hope."
to visit the Stories of Hope web page and please e-mail

This week’s Story of Hope comes from our very own parishioner, Bob McCan, who is busy writing a book that studies the vision and approach needed in our society to fulfill the prayer of Jesus, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done
on
earth as it is in heaven.” Click

Meet Lynden James, our new Building and Grounds Supervisor. Lynden joined TCFE on June 1 after nine years in the construction industry. During his career, he has worked in commercial and residential construction within the United States, South America, and the Caribbean.
Lynden was born and raised in Guyana, South America, and moved to the United States in 2016. After finishing high school, Lynden entered the workforce as a government employee but jumped at the opportunity to work in construction as it is his passion.(He has already replaced the sump pump in the elevator shaft.)
He currently resides in Alexandria, Virginia with his wife Shanice and sons, Kayden and Kyle. Lynden enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and trying new and rare foods. He is thrilled to be at TFCE, and appreciates the warm welcome he has received.

No-Contact Food Drive – This Saturday, June 20
th
The folks at the
FCS
food pantry are SO GRATEFUL that TFCE is running a food drive to help them re-stock their bare shelves. You can help out with the food drive in two ways:
- You can drop donations off at the church this Saturday morning between 9 a.m. and noon. This will be a No Contact Food Drive - you put the food in disposable bags in your trunk, pull in to the upper parking lot, pop the trunk, and one of our volunteers will unload them for you...no need for you to get out of your car! FCS has particular need of the following items: canned fruit, canned veggies, bar soap, cereal, diapers (especially larger sizes), toothpaste, a general household cleaner, laundry soap and cooking oil.
- You can volunteer to help unload donations on Saturday morning by signing up here. The noon to 1 p.m. shift will drop donations off at FCS (on Rt 50 near Graham Rd), and if you have a van or a truck to help transport donations, that would be a huge help!
Thanks so much for your generosity to those in need!
Our ministry partners at FCS have seen a significant increase in their requests for grocery drop-offs at people’s homes. They are looking for drivers to pick-up groceries from their food bank and no-contact drop them off at people’s doors. If you are interested, please email
[email protected]
|
|
Make sandwiches for those in need
Make sandwiches or bag lunches for drop-off at the Bailey's Crossroads
Shelter or New Hope Housing's Eleanor Kennedy Shelter near Fort Belvoir. Please see the
attached flyer
and contact Sami Smyth at 703-799-2293 x11 or
[email protected]
for more information.

The Little Free Food Pantry
On Fairfax Street near the church’s Thrift Shop is a small “take some food, leave some food” pantry (like the “little libraries” where people can take or leave a book). We are definitely seeing people use that pantry to supplement their groceries, and you can drop off non-perishable food items there at any time.
