University of Maine Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development Program is offering a new Summer series, 4-H Fridays on the Farm to get teens ages 12-18 engaged in Maine agriculture. Each session will include an opportunity for teens to take a tour of operations, gain hands-on experience, and consider their role in the Maine Food System.

Current 4-H enrollment is not necessary for participation. Program materials and instruction are FREE.

USDA Market News provides prices, volume, and other information on agricultural commodities sold at local and regional markets throughout the United States. But Maine has very few price reports available on the USDA AMS website.

Bryan Sullivan, Agricultural Market Reporter, and Levi Geyer, Assistant Field Chief with USDA-AMS are coming to Bangor, on July 22 from 10:00 AM to noon at Dysart’s Restaurant, 1110 Broadway Ave. to see what potential there may be to include reports to meet the needs of farmers/producers, wholesale buyers, auctions, stakeholders, and other interested people throughout the state of Maine. This meeting will also be available by Zoom.

Last year was a great challenge for Maine farms. A number of organizations surveyed farmers and ag service providers to learn more about 2020’s stressors and what would help Maine farms recover in 2021. Many of these surveys and questionnaires were included in this Maine Farm News.

We have pulled together several surveyors to share responses from recent agriculture-oriented surveys in a panel discussion on Zoom on July 21st from 1 pm to 3 pm.
